Two days ago I travelled to Bilston on the 34 and saw some Banga buses. However the two I saw were unusual. They were larger and one I saw was a Optare delta I think. he next one was parked up at the bus station was of medium size and in the yellow livery. I do not know what type it was. Can anyone enlighten me?
They've recently had a trio of ex National Express Optare Solos
One of these you saw?
http://wmbusphotos.com/Banga/S240EWU.html
No it wasn't a Optare Solo, it was a older larger bus and also the other one was what looked like a Optare Sigma.
They must have acquired some new (!) buses then. Maybe Tony can find out more?
no, not Banga, are you sure these bigger vehicles were not the all yellow Wolverhampton City Council buses
QuoteThe next one was parked up at the bus station was of medium size and in the yellow livery.
Following on from Tony's post, Wolverhampton City Council YJ54ZXX (Oe B33F and basically yellow!) is frequently on the free town centre shuttle service, and passes through the Bus Station regularly ..... they have a similar vehicle ZXY as well, but I've only ever seen ZXX on the shuttle.
Was it one of these?: http://wmbusphotos.com/Wolvescouncil/wcc_5204.html (http://wmbusphotos.com/Wolvescouncil/wcc_5204.html)
If it was a WCC vehicle I have to wonder why it'd be in Bilston Bus Station.
I recall I used to see a similar looking vehicle (not sure if it was a WCC-owned) dropping off school kids at the old Bilston Leisure Centre.
Maybe it was waiting at the bus station after dropping the kids off at the new Leisure Centre?
Afraid its not any of the Wolvehampton council buses. I'm sure the bus had a blue stripe and it didn't have a DAF body. Perhaps they've got some "new" additions.
Yellow with a blue strip in Bilston Bus Station?
Sandwell Travel Dart is the answer. Certainly wasn't Banga if it was bigger than a merc
Thats the one Tony. Thanks, they do look similar to Banga though!
Just found the photo of one of the buses I saw:

I guess it depends on whether the timetables changes to the 535 & 634 will allow buses to be re-deployed off those routes, if not additional buses may well need to be sourced
Banga have 14 buses they have 9 out in service so
they enough spare without buying any more
unless they are going to scrap some & get
some more solos from somewhere
Is there any reason P537 PNE is in Sedgley traveling towards Wolverhampton ?

Banga Buses are expanding to Dudley then
How long have banga buses had a logo ?
Granted it is only a blue arrow and a yellow arrow but it's something, seen one on one of the solo they have earlier
Any pics?... About time they had a new one for this livery!..
Is the 82 simply a renumbering (and extension) of their existing 545?

The 'vans' don't really have that long left now though. I'm guessing they will be using their best buses on the route to try and sway nx customers, obviously they won't get the students as they have travelcards, but there are a lot of pushchairs along the route and with nx only accepting 2 it leaves passengers for banga

You say that now, what if this is the making of banga buses. This time next year they could be investing in brand new Solo' or Streetlites have their own travelcards and a bigger network. NX may even withdraw their 82 due to nearly all passengers moving to banga buses. I know it's unlikely but it could happen lol
From what I've read in the past about Banga, they seem to be behaving themselves these days.
Our equivalent of the old style Banga over in Walsall was A2Z & look what happened to them!

The post was just me saying certain things, which i shall not explain, i have seen drivers of Banga doing.
on a different point i believe banga only have a few low floor buses so why would parents with pushchairs use this when you will odds are only get a couple of buses a day that have pushchair slots.

Without small companies like banga NX would have a monopoly on all services!.. You would also find fares would be a lot higher!.. That's why buses were privatised!!.. I have caught Banga buses and their drivers are friendly and give a more personal service. NX on the other hand well! I know I'm a former driver!lol. As for breadvan buses many of the larger independents started with these so don't knock them!.. They will soon be gone...

I do agree with that sentiment; NX get criticised for having a monopoly on bus services in the West Midlands, and then the smaller operators get chastised for not being NX!

This has the June 2014 changes listed, I believe the new journeys are following the route of the NXWM service, rather than their existing 535 route.
Have we got any information other than the fact it will operate the route for the 82. Will it be day time, will it replace the NX or Run along it or replace Arriva.

Didn't see many people using the Arriva 530 this afternoon! The Rocket Pool-W'ton route does not need a bus every 10 minutes or less. You have both Arriva and Banfa operating at every 15 minutes

GRS never applied to Centro for slots in Dudley & Stourbridge bus stations, they just registered a service using private land without asking the landowner's permission to use it, hence why the do not serve either bus station now, and presumably why Centro haven't put the service into their database as the registration is not what is being operated

I've just been down to the stop on Green Street and the new timetable isn't up in the shelter.
@NXDom It depends on a few things.
- Have Centro and Banga agreed slots for timetables/bus station slots
- Have Centro/Traveline had the registered timetable from VOSA
- Have Centro/Traveline uploaded it to their servers yet
- Are Centro waiting for the timetables for the stops from the print department/graphic design dept
At least Banga are likely to run compliantly!
Also, odds on a breadvan running on there?

Well it's hardly ever got 'chavs' on there is never anything wrong with the 82. You don't use it every day and expreience it every day. The only time there could be 'chavs' as you put it on is when the schools finish even then 2-3 people.

I've got to say Banga have improved their fleet quite a bit. It was only a few years back they had a load of knackered breadvans in a dull cream/blue livery. And now they have a fair few low floor vehicles and they have all their buses in a smart livery unlike the other independant in Wolverhampton....

I wish Banga all the best! All the NXWM 82's I saw today were B6's not even the Mercs, which are even more worn out!

Agreed - the Varios (or "Breadvans" as some types on here call them) are actually excellent buses, a shame for Banga that they aren't low floor. I think though that if Banga play their cards right they have a good chance of taking plenty of passengers from NX on this route.

No, they have several
There is always one who has be pedantic ::) NX don't operate in previous operators colours or logo's though...
Anyway moving on....
Despite Arriva registering on the 530 Mon-Sat daytimes every 15 mins it does seem Banga are still getting the majority of passengers. Saw a Solo go past last week with a healthy load (Not full of OAP's btw).

Makes a change it being somebody else, doesn't it? NX have several naff liveries, Banga have a consistent attractive image. No contest.

Does their 82 take over from the 545 the run or is that still going? Cause it's the same route aint it?

Yeah, that's what I thought. Still haven't seen the timetable so don't know what times they operate.
Network West Midlands 22nd June service changes says: "Mon-Fri only, six return trips between Bilston and Dudley, two of which are extended to/from Wolverhampton."

Cheers
@P419 EJW.
I presume the midday extension to wolverhampton is to cover lunches/swap drivers
Only a half arsed effort at random times no ones really going to bother using it are they? I would bit purely out of interest, nothing else
@Kevin I presume it's to allow for a one bus working system
This Banga dart has cut out 10 times and on the dashboard he has got 4 red lights at least with a constant beeping noise...
...and we're about 15 minutes down!!!
Odds on the 1502 ex Bilston not having a dart is most likely!!
here the dart that banga has https://www.flickr.com/photos/stanjack/14541522984/
Solo on the 82 today
i wonder where the dart goes in the afternoon as the dart was on this morning
The 535 has appeared to be renumbered as the 5
ive seen both 5 and 535. think they must be interworking similar to nxwm (535 going 5a route out of codsall, but still straight up newhampton rd. 5 follows exact nxwm 5 route through bilbrook and dunstall)

I travelled on two of the Banga Vario's today, P108 and W193. Bus and Coach Weekly, December 23rd issue suggests that they will not be allowed to run after tomorrow as they are not DDA compliant. P102, R136 and X657 were also in service.
Wonder what Banga are buying to replace them with? More MPDs/solos?
There were at least three Varios on the 545 today (Saturday), including P102 and P108 HCH.
X657 WTN was the other one out on Saturday...

Neither are packed to the brim but I seem to see more using Banga (Being more established on the route). The problem is that corridor does not warrant a 7-8 minute frequency whatsoever hence the loadings.

Good on them! :) Seems like Arriva are getting more and more competition... Over their dominant areas of operation, they've got at least Midland Classic, Central Buses, Select Bus and now Banga all having a go...

Just to say this is probably gonna be like the 82, 6 journeys all together for the day.

I fear you may be right... Where they seem most successful is the 530 and 545 routes where they have a loyal following I don't personally think Arriva have really been able to impact...
I'd like to see them maybe focus on building real route presence by switching from corridors that they only have 5/6 journeys per day onto routes where they can make a real impact...
Soon there'll be Select Wolves-Cannock, Banga Wolves-Telford, NX Wolves-Cannock and Stafford.

I've heard on the grapevine that banga are to stop operating the 545 and then from the buses off of there they will alter the 82 to have a full day service with 2 buses from Dudley and Wolverhampton per hour and not have any Dudley-bilston journeys.
Banga now have ex-NCT 261 (V261 DRB) and 263 (V263 DRC).

It may be quieter between Shifnal and Telford where Arriva have registered the X92 in response to Banga's registration. The X92 is timed 5 minutes in front of Banga and is free until their registration kicks in next week

Does anyone know why Banga Buses got rid of their two MPD buses that they had - X502 WRG and X503 WRG - it seems strange as they only had them for quite a short time and they were some of the newest buses in the fleet (i believe that both of these buses have now been scrapped). Also does anyone know if KX58 GSZ (8.9m Enviro 200) has been painted in to the Banga Buses livery yet. Thank you.

@RS - Thanks for the info. When did KX58 GSZ leave Banga Buses. I suppose that means that their entire fleet is now made up of Optare Solo buses (both 8.5m and 9.2m versions).
I don't know but Hansons have currently got it from Dawson's Rentals
@countryliner the two Darts have been scrapped as they proved to be very unreliable.
Another Solo has joined the fleet but I didn't get the ID from the person who told me.

@Ashley 60171 - Thanks for the info. For some reason this batch of ex Go Ahead North East MPDs seem to be very unreliable. The ones that we have at the Big Lemon - X504 WRG / X508 WRG / X551 FBB - have been extremely unreliable (all three are regularly out of use at the same time). The ones that Xelabus currently have - X512 WRG / X514 WRG - have also been very unreliable. The one that Trustybus had - X501 WRG (VJZ 3283) - was also very unreliable so they got rid of it (it has now been scrapped as well). So i am not surprised that - X502 WRG / X503 WRG - were unreliable. It is a shame though as they are very nice vehicles. It will be interesting to see their new Optare Solo though - they have quite a few vehicles - does anyone know what Banga Buses's PVR is.
They were ok when they worked. Think the PVR is between 10 and 12.
Darts were shite so got rid.

@Ashley 60171 @Solo1 @DiamondDart @BN - Yes Banga Buses seem to be purchasing a lot of new 8.5m Optare Solo and 9.2m Optare Solo buses recently. I presume that it is to replace their older S reg non DDA compliant Optare Solo buses.

Vehicles over 20 years old are allowed to be used for 20 days in any year. This is solely there to allow museums and the like to operate vintage buses for shows and open days.
A 19 year old solo does not qualify

@Tony; however I do not see how the law benefits passengers / would further encourage use of a 19 year old Solo which is already much more appealing with its change giving facility than any other buses in the area, less Hi Ride
@Solo1 - Thanks for the info. Yes i suppose it is quite likely that these S reg Optare Solo buses have now been withdrawn especially as they have just purchased quite a few newer Optare Solo buses.

I sense trolling here,
If not, the whole point of it is they are not encouraging use of a 19 year old solo. They want something newer, more economical, less CO2, more business (VAT and the likes). And DDA.
@MW - I believe that the main reason of the DDA compliance rules and regulations is so that all buses are fully accessible to disabled passengers. I do not think that it is in place to get bus operators to buy newer vehicles. For an example bus operators could still use an N reg low floor Dart if they converted it to DDA compliant (such as Sandwell Travel who have converted N227 TPK to DDA compliant).
I am not familiar with all the DDA rules, but S284 has a ramp and the other S reg's have not.
@Eric Shaw - Thanks for the info. There is quite a lot involved with the DDA compliance rules and regulations. It is much more then just being a low floor bus and having a wheelchair ramp and a wheelchair space. However i suppose that it is probably quite likely the S284 AOX has been converted to DDA compliant so that it can continue in public service where as S232 EWU / S238 EWU / S239 EWU / S240 EWU have probably been withdrawn from public service.

No it's not there to get operators to buy new buses but its more of a push for them to do so than simply running buses into the ground until there is no value left to them or it's gotten to such a state there's no point doing anything else with it. To convert a bus to be DDA compliant it needs to be viable commercially so that it will not be done at a loss overall, for example there's no point converting a bus so that its DDA compliant if it's going to cost more than what the bus is worth, or if it's not going to have that long left in service.
@T840MAK - Yes i do see what you mean. However what i was trying to say is that the number one main reason that these DDA compliance rules and regulations have been introduced is to ensure that all buses are fully accessible to all disabled passengers who wish to use them.

If you think that Banga are 'a very good bus operator', then you need a reality check. Back in the past, the company was run by a different family member running a very poor company, as discussed at length previously in this thread. It certainly has improved a lot since then but they still cannot be called 'a very good bus operator'.
As for the branding, it's not the worst branding I've seen but it's far from the best. Maybe it would have been better to keep them as they were, Solos have such little room for branding to make an improvement to the bus. For a company with a relatively small fleet it would also give more flexibility to use the buses on different routes had they not been branded.

From what Ive heard over the years on this site & in the press, they seem to be behaving themselves in recent years.
Im sure at least one other company regulary mentioned on this forum should have taken note of how Banga have conducted themselves since their problems a few years ago.
Mixed opinions on the branding tbh. Looks a bit too big for the bus that it's used on when viewed on the side.

It would have been useful to incorporate the places it serves in the branding, that's assuming the photo's are of the finished article?
I think the branding is a little big as well tbh & think it would have been better placed on the 891 ratger than the 530 asif it were me rrunning the same route as a competitor using a different number I'd want to make sure as many people as possible knew where the bus was going.
Social Travel had ordered branding for the 74a to be applied to the mpds but thsts not to be now & i dont see any advantage to branding the 11 as most passengers know where the 11 goes in much the same way as bangas 530 passengers know about tye bus.

Do they give change?
Also, i think the branding is a bit amatuer imo. They should have just left them as they are. The buses look smart as it is. As i say, just my opinion.
Sometimes I catch the Banga Buses on my route 545 (usually when I am in a hurry, they are quicker than NX82), the drivers do give change and they have been giving change for years.

I wouldn't compare Travel Express with Banga Buses. ::)
--
I've been commuting on Banga Buses (on 545) for years and I have never encountered a nasty incident between the driver and the passenger. Some drivers are nice, kind, and have a little chat with the regulars. A particular driver on 545 always greets passengers with a 'Alright, how you doin'?' and a smile, sometimes he asks how their relatives (those he knows) are - rest assured he does greet new/non-regular passengers haha.

It's like you read my mind. The million dollar question.
@countryliner do they give change?
@Winston - Yes i agree that including the places that the route serves on the branding could be a good idea. Maybe that is something that they will add in the future.
@Steveminor - I see what you mean about the branding being big but i think that it might be a good thing as it will stand out more and make more people see it. That is interesring to hear about the branding that you ordered. But i agree that it is probably not needed for the 11C as most people will probably know about that route quite well (just out of interest will you be using four buses on the 11C).
@P419 EJW - That is good to hear. I have always had really nice friendly drivers when i have used Banga Buses in the past. They certainly have very good customer service.
@MW - Yes Banga Buses do indeed give change on all of their bus services and they always have done so. Here is a list of all of the bus operators in the UK that operate an exact fare policy and do not give change.

@Winston, that was meant to be a serious question. I'm sure they have fareboxes on their buses and that they are exact fare like the other operators in Wolverhampton. DVSA have been in both Wolverhampton & Dundee monitoring the performance of all companies in both Cities including NXWM & Stagecoach, so not just picking on the small ops before someone starts
Yeah Tony but nothing happening to nx or stagecoach.

ROTALA group Wessex were before the TC about 2 years ago over late running and failing to operate.
@Solo1 - That is interesting to hear. It will be interesting to see what happens at the public inquiry.
@Steveminor - Yes i definetly agree with you. It is very unfair how they do not do anything when the big group bus operators do anything illegal.
@Tony - I realise that they may be looking at all bus operators but unfairly they seem to be far more interested in picking on all of the small independent bus operators. The large bus operators rarely get sent to public inquiries and they almost never get their licenses revoked. You might disagree with me but i definetly think that a lot of the time they just pick on the small independent bus operators.
@fleetline6477 - Do you know what happened with them. Did they get any fines.

Even not operating services at all is OK because you cannot expect them to have the contingency plans that DVSA expect them to have.
Sod the passengers.

Banga don't have running boards Tom, they have a little slip of paper (That covers the speedo most of the time) that says the dep and arr time for each location. They time it really well so they don't need to change drivers.

It is possible that Bilston bus station is not a registered timing point for banga in which case it wouldn't matter what time it departed. I know it's on centros timetable as a timing point however from experience centros timetables don't always match the operators.

That's quite a stupid comment really. It's going though a bus station, ofcourse it's going to be a timing point!
In other news I've just seen the 530 branded solo on the 545 going into Bilston
Not necessarily a timing point is what is registered with the Tc.
Yes they would have to get a time slot for the bus station but there is nothing to say this has to be a registered timing point with the Tc
Maybe he could have misread it or misjudged the times? These things do happen.

He got infront of my X96 then conveniently forgot to turn left when he got to the mini roundabout in laurel road and carried on along laurel road turned left at hazel road and pulled out into traffic on priory road and finally got infront of the NX bus only to get into Dudley bus station with no passengers and then parked up.......... Any point ?

And this is what gets to me when people on here try to defend
some of the smaller bus companies.
Drivers not adhering to routes, trying to get in front of other buses, it's a pity that one of the TCs men wasn't on the prowl.
If it had been an NX bus that did it, there would be outrage and claims that NX were trying to put small operators out of business.

Quote from: NXWMFAN1105 on March 03, 2019, 03:52:40 PM
I read somewhere that buses that are 20 years or older can only be used for 20 days per year. This is to allow for preservation groups e.t.c to use their vehicle for rallies and other events.
But there are still ways of getting around this I believe. Registering a bus as a coach does this, and allows Clearway in Bromsgrove to use their now approaching 21 year old minibus in regular service. Also, Cumbria Classic Coaches use their 27 year old Leyland Olympian on heritage routes

The DDA deadline for coaches is less than a year away I believe, so that loophole will soon close
Also you are not permitted to use coaches on stage carriage work in TfWM area.

They aren't. If they as a tendering authority wish to impose their own standards above what the law prescribes they are perfectly entitled too.
They would be breaking the law if for example they allowed non -DDA buses to operate stage carriage services as they are no longer allowed to be used.

And AQPS rules are enforcable by DVSA/the TC, not TfWM, although TfWM set them meaning anyone ignoring them can face punishment

Most of the latest TfWM tenders need to be Euro 6, if they are for those I assume they'll have time to upgrade them though.
It looks as though some of the replacement Igo tenders have a bit more flexibility due to short notice replacements needing to being found.

Most uk bus operators have now gone down the exact fare route so I guess having the vaults for Banga would reduce the confrontation with passengers wanting their change.

I use Banga often and I've never come across any confrontation over change. When Banga started on the 530, one of their tactics to win customers from TWM & Arriva was their change giving policy. Now that they've had the route to themselves for years and built up a loyal customer base, it makes sense now to implement the exact fare policy. Anyway, their fares in Wolverhampton are simple enough (£2.10 for an adult single or £3 for a 530 day return) so I can't see any problems there. However, the 891 fares are a bit more complex so i'm a bit unsure about whether this will cause problems on that route.

Hansons had the vaults installed out of the way behind the cab door on the darts. That said though, First Aberdeen have theirs placed extremely awkwardly in-front of the card reader, making it difficult to scan your pass. Very poor design there!

Was it a solo by any chance? Could likely have been YN03NDK if it was, as that has a problem where the air pressure sometimes builds too high.

This isn't such a problem for Banga, as pretty much every vehicle in the fleet has been out in service since the pandemic began. It seems like they're rotating vehicles round so they don't sit in the depot for lengthy periods and develop faults etc.

Not going to be in service until next year, as they want to use the 3 older solos as much as possible (YF02SKO, CE52UXF & YN03NDK) before the Euro 6 restrictions come into place next year.

Whilst they may have plenty of life left in them, they can't be used without being upgraded to meet the euro 6 standards that come into force in Wolverhampton next year, which is what I said in my original post. Where I get my info from is irrelevant. The fact still remains that the new enviros won't see the road until next year.

Both 2010 solos are compliant AFAIK. If not already, both 2005 solos will be trapped as i'm fairly sure they're staying in the fleet. Bearing in mind, most of the enviros had to be trapped before they went into service.

YN03NDK mot has now ran out anyone know the plans for the bus?
Does the 891 do well or is it funded?
Given how Banga operate normally (very local Wolverhampton runs), it seems a strange route for them (or any small WM independent operator for that matter) to be running such an interurban route and it doesn't serve in the towns/villages, just sits on the main road through them (Shifnal has a good few unserved estates, as does Albrighton).
If the route does well, has Banga trialled stuff with the route? I can use registrations and wayback machine etc but they aren't always the best. is there like a timeline for how the route has been developed and/or cut? I'm fascinated by the route.
Any help is appreciated.

The 891 is a solely commercially operated route, and you'll often see a healthy load (at least before Covid came about). They've been on the route since 2015, where they ran in direct competition with Arriva. The service did once serve some of the Albrighton estates (the stop flags still remain today) but that was stopped a few years ago. Admirals Estate in Shifnal was also served, but now the service routes more directly along Curriers Lane and through the town centre. Since 2018, they've had the Telford - Wolverhampton corridor largely to themselves (except the Arriva services to Shifnal/Bridgnorth).
When the route first started out, YF02SKO was branded for the 891, however it was de branded a while later. I guess, because it does well (from personal observation) then they don't see any reason to change it. Additionally, the current timetable doesn't allow for any expansion to the route, without requiring more resources. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
I believe the route came about in retaliation for Arriva move against them on the 530 or 535 cant remember which one. Arriva then pulled off Bangas route however since the 891 was doing well financially Banga kept the 891 going until eventually arriva withdrew their service.

Shame a bus got debranded. As for changes, there is that arguement you made but you can also see it another way that a change could get more people onboard and if you can do that, why wouldn't you. It's a risk either way. Depends how brave Banga are and how much potential the route has.

Banga served the estates around Albrighton, with both serving Admirals in Shifnal.
The branding wasn't really much, at least in comparison to YN03NDK. It was a couple of wheelie bin numbers stuck on the front windscreen, and by the door.
The current timetable is very tight for time, so adding in additional stops/rerouting the service isn't possible without adding another bus and driver.

I assume the bus with a whole in the bumper was YX60FUE? Some routes inter work on Banga network (e.g the bus comes into Wton as a 53, goes out as an 81 to maintain frequency).
Cleanliness isn't great but that's reflected in fares; not sure which vehicle you're on about but at least the service is mostly reliable and friendly.
The bus w/ the shattered top part of the window is MX12JXC and has been like that for ages
YX61BYB is the bus with the filthy seats.
The bus which changed stops was route 891. Normally comes into Wolves & unloads by the Cop station

The timekeeping ie the Shrewsbury Arms going in Wolves direction. Drivers find it acceptable to leave five or six mins early. Also the timetable states that the service should terminate in Wolves bus station. Instead they terminate by the cop station. Then they go & park up in the layover at the side of the bus station
Don't mention about complaining to Raj. Why? Because his brother is a driver. One of the drivers who is saying screw the timetables

Is that stop a timing point? If not then as long as there leaving all timing points on time then there's not much you can do, bear in mind the roads are quieter at this time of year

That's the whole thing ... they don't leave timing pints on time . The Banga number 5 at 1815 leaves Codsall (start of route) over 10 mins early, skips half the route and arrives in wton nearly 20 mins early so I've gone to the DVSA

I hope there is CCTV and evidence of these apparent occurrences otherwise these are some serious allegations that are being posted on an enthusiasts forum without the driver/operators in question able to defend themselves.
Sounds like people on here want to sack drivers and services not to run, these issues should be reported to the appropriate authorities and through the correct channels to be investigated, not on an enthusiasts forum!

Unless you make every stop a timing point it's impossible to serve every stop on time. However if buses do leave timing points on time and regularly end up arriving at stops 10 minutes early then it sounds like the timetable has to much slack in it
