some already have

I was on 4596 last night and noticed it still has the old trim. 4588,4592 and 4594 are the same. I know that these were the ones admitted for repaint at the end of last year which were missed off. If some have already been done, is there plans to retrim these anytime soon (Along with the ones missed off from WA that still have the old trim)?

Cov 4421 was a real scruffy one, so that makes sense.

Stevo

But will 4421 get the new Coventry livery? It'll be the first ALX400 if it does.

1877 back at Perry Barr
4527 back at Acocks Green

There's a Coventry liveried ALX400 in the refurb bay at West Bromwich I assume it's 4421 the fitters didn't waste much stripping this one most lower glazing out ,seats out, this bus must have been rough on the body work side every single panel on the driver side is now off. It's a very comprehensive refurb on this ALX400 should look like new from outside at least when finished.

JoNi

4421 was in a truly dreadful state with rust covered lower panels.

Every single panel comes off at refurb, even the ones that 'look good' this is to check for any damage or rot on the framework

All the panels are aluminium, so don't rust

Aluminium does corrode but differently to Steel, there's few ALX400 at west brom with bubbled paintwork on various panels, it's basically reacted with something to cause it, I did study vehicle bodywork at college I ,ve forgotten the correct terminology for it .

Un-treated aluminium oxidises & discolours when it comes in to contact with something like water, but a protective treatment such as anodising prevents this. You can also have issues if say aluminium panels are fixing to mild steel structural members & get bi-metallic corrosion, which is where dissimilar metals make contact & react with one another and are not isolated by a rubber barrier etc
