I was in Wolverhampton for some time today, but did not see any Excel's. Have they been withdrawn or just having a day off?

We'll get rid of your bus to Wolves and replace it with one to Walsall instead.......... Oh the joy of a Network Review. -_-

The T/V reg mercs just sound healthier to me, still very good buses

Maybe it's just the examples I'm familiar with then, but (and Trident 4609 can back me up here :P) 1518 which we rode Saturday before last was flying up the hills on the 244, whereas 1665 which we had last Saturday was really struggling

Yes The T reg mercs struggled up the hill on the 244 near dudley whereas 1518 the week before did seem to get up the hill easier.

The T/V reg mercs are a lot smoother and the interior is nicer, but the older ones do appear quicker.

On my recent visit (I don't get over often enough!) I tried to get a spin on as many Mercs as possible on as many different routes as I could. I got 1518 on a 246, absolute flyer! Also managed to get class leader 1515 on a 297A, again it tore along. I hadn't realised how different the interiors are from the first and second batch, completely different really in terms of ceilings, seats lighting etc. I have to say the Mercs are a very pleasant and comfortable bus to travel on, I will be sad to see them go.
