Title: 23 New Buses
Post by: Daniel541 on February 11, 2013, 08:52:50 PM
They have confirm the 23 new buses but I thought they have been order with 27 new buses! New Buses will be arrive around in Spring and some more before end of the year. :D

I think would be "New Mercedes Citaro" on the Foleshill branding and Scanias could replace the 23 old buses to withdrawn?

NXC's MD was quoted as saying 27 were due during 2013 in the CBW NX Group special feature article. Obviously numbers have now changed, sounds as though NXC may eventually end up with more than the 27 new buses thought due.

I'd like to see NX order a batch of Citaro's but doubt it will happen, it looks as though the NX standard double decker will be ADL E400 & Volvo B7RLE/Wright for full size single deckers

It could be an order of B7RLE/MCV, that'd be interesting.

I don't actually know what IS on order, but I do know from people I know at Wrights that the only buses they are building for NXWM at the moment are the hybrids for WN.

Wrights have confirmed orders for 480 Borismasters for London last time I asked, may be 600 by now so won't be short of work

Maybe scania can offer some omnilinks going cheap to provide work for their plant in Poland where loads of employees are being made redundant. Its possible tho it could be enviro400s or mcv bodied b7rles but I for one cant wait to find out

Just can't see NXWM buying MCV, MCV are not typically a supplier of bigger group orders.

That is true though perhaps until now. WMT/twm/nxwm have often bought more unusual buses such as the mercs which seemed unusual at the time

Wasnt the whole point of MCV Teaming up with Volvo was so it had a better change of getting big group orders,Could be the new streetlite MAX,same seats as an eclipse but cheaper to run/purchase

If NX do decide to buy more single deckers I think they will keep Wrightbus as the supplier & standardize the bodywork. It would like to see NX buy some Citaro's though for a couple of branded or premier single deck routes, the styling gives an air of quality....

Just think about it, what other buses have been ordered for the west mids, Enviro 400, Enviro 200, plus there was the MCV demonstrator, which many people seemed to like. So based on this could coventry get some new Midi buses or some MCV B7RLE's

MCV dont just do Volvo MCV's, Merc Benz also do a chassis  for MCV, I'm not sure which is the cheaper but the Mercs would be better for Coventry.

They could even go to Walsall to replace the remaining liberators and ensure the 311/313 is fully omnilink operated and may be upgrade the 29/302 to omnilink operation then Walsall would have 1848-1904 then.

You wouldn't send an odd 6 to a garage that didn't already operate any. The whole point of moving them from Coventry will be to reduce the number of garages stocking spare parts.

I'd have thought PB, WA & YW would all be good candidates to receive additional Omnilinks should they become available, which in turn will allow the last of the B10L's to be withdrawn.

There's not point moving Omnilinks to a garage that doesn't currently operate they type unless they could allocate a sizeable batch

Not sure why they would need to transfer any buses out of Coventry - they have around 35 of the oldest Mercs, of which 18 are R Reg and thus amongst the oldest buses in the NXWM/NXC fleet.

Interesting they are training on B7RLEs - any arriving could potentially be new ones (not yet announced) or nearly new transfers? BC have 30 and WN 48 (both of which garages seem to be involved in new buses/cascades resulting from new Hybrids at WN).

Interesting they are training on B7RLEs - any arriving could potentially be new ones (not yet announced) or nearly new transfers? BC have 30 and WN 48 (both of which garages seem to be involved in new buses/cascades resulting from new Hybrids at WN).

Tony has previously suggested that much of the new order of double-decks would be used to upgrade some routes to single-decker; so while some single-deck vehicles could be withdrawn, there's no reason why there couldn't be a shifting around of 'nearly-new' single-decks to replace older ones too on routes that still need them.

37 branded Omnilink in Coventry for Driver Training

That's quite strange, as Coventry already operate Omnilinks (and are rumoured to be losing them) why would they need another one for driver training?  ::)

I thought it was mentioned somewhere that the Foleshill Road omnilinks have only been debranded to have a new branded put on them similar to the 4 and 37.

Yes I know, and I agree with what you say - however as Coventry has more of the oldest single decker vehicles than any other garage it would make sense to actually replace some of their old single deckers, with new double deckers (Tony says 10) than to shift newer ones elsewhere. I'm guessing NXC may receive some cascaded newer single deck vehicles or brand new ones at some point also.

Yep. But with which bodywork? Considering Tony said Wrights had nothing from the West Midlands on order

I'll be gob smacked if NX ordered any with the MCV bodywork. Tony said that there was nothing else going through production at Wrightbus for NX at the moment other than the Hybrids, orders for 2013 still haven't been announced in detail, we only know NX intend to buy 130 new buses this year.

Ah mystery solved..... Tony, do have you any idea of quantities due?

Why have NX become so secretive about announcing breakdowns of actual vehicle on order? All the other big groups are happy to give a breakdowns of what has been ordered/with which manufacturer in the trade press. I can understand NX not wanting to disclose plans of which routes they are intended for until they arrive for commercial reasons etc

I would think the omnilinks may leave Coventry and transfer to either YW or PB to replace some of the liberators in service there or even Walsall as they currently have the 1848-1862 and 1863-1877 would complete the series and replace the liberators there as they fit under the bridge by the saddlers so would be OK for the 38.

Recently, 1869 has lost logo "National Express Coventry". If blue scanias will transferred to NX West Midlands that I missed 1875 because my favorite is 1875.

Or transferred to Perry Barr for increase the fleet due to North Birmingham & Sutton Coldfield will provide a " more more buses".

I can't see the scanias leaving NXC, seems strange to remove newish buses when Coventry have some of the older series of Mercs, surely the scanias could take over the routes worked by some of the Mercs and the new buses for the Foleshill road services or vice versa. Strange decision to remove brandings and fleetnames from the scanias though

The plan was 27 new buses. So 17 B7RLE and 10 Enviro400.

But the plan also appears to result in the cascading of 15 x Omnilinks to NXWM, therefore will only allow for 12 older buses to be withdrawn

20/20A/20E requires 13 buses and 1 requires 2 buses so 17 buses makes sense allowing restoration of two spares.

Type training was in full swing at Coventry with 2153 out today with destination showing

more interesting than "Not in Service"!

I see Ashes point about knocking off the B6s only 662 was out on 3/A today.

National Express Coventry is set to receive 27 of these vehicles in the next batch to be delivered for upgrades along the Foleshill Road and Ansty Road corridors, Service 10 is also expected to benefit from brand new Enviro 400 double deckers.
2153 was emerging from Coventry Garage during driver training.

Ooh, that sounds good.
23 is the core quantity of buses working services 8, 8A, 9, 9A and 10 in the daytime.
Then seemingly an additional 15, but in exchange for young Omnilinks currently allocated to services 1, 20, 20A and 20E.
So overall it sounds like at least 38 new buses plus hopefully an additional 4 spare buses (10.5%) assuming the previously quoted quantity of either 23 or 27 is indeed 27.

I didn;t know CV had a route 1

It doesn't touch the main part of the City Centre by Pool Meadow. Only New Union Street, Little Park Street and Jordan Well

WMNST operated the 1 when it was reinstated following complaints from residents of Chapelfields of the loss of their link to Earlsdon in the Coventry Network Review. The bus drove all day without any layover with the Driver seemingly driving for more than 5 hours 30 minutes without a break if the bus operated according to the timetable!

If you want to see NXCs 1 they pass outside the Council House roughly on the hour. You don't have to be too lucky to get both of them passing in a photograph!

Before the review the 1 was known as "the route that went from nowhere to nowhere with nobody on it".

Same applies to the current NXC route 1 :D

Presume your comments refer to where it goes to and from.

The 1 is an ideal candidate as an off peak operation with the bus being used as school bus in the same way as the 42 operates in Coventry.

Probably not until much later in the year.

It says here 27 new Volvo's are due and the OmniLink's are going to Walsall

It also says routes 8/8A/9/9A will benefit from the new order, suggesting that the B7RLEs will be used on these services as well as the 20/A/E. It also states that rout 1 requires new vehicles as part of a Centro contract agreement, so spare eclipses will be used on the 1

That's now both Perry Barr & Walsall that have been reported to be receiving the Scania Omnilinks

I should imagine the final destination may more likely be Walsall then, I can't remember where Perry Barr came from? It could have been more of an assumption based on the forthcoming North B'ham review & the quantities of B10L & Scania Omnilink being available tie up. PB, WA & YW are the most likely recipients, with all operating B10L's & Scania Omnilinks

I got told there was only going to be a net increase of 12 new vehicles. 17 B7RLE + 10 Enviro400 - 15 Scanias = 12.

It seems know one knows for sure other than management. Matt King is quoting the 27 x B7RLE + the Enviro E400.

The MD of NXC quoted a total of 27 new buses as well, before Xmas in CBW

Info from a source at Coventry. Not Matt King.

B7RLE should start to appear at the end of the month. 10 due initially.

I didn't think they'd be arriving quite that quick, but given that driver training has already commenced, that backs up the fact that they can't be far away.......

May be more in due later in the year? If CV are only gaining a nett increase of 12 new buses, that's not going to put much of a dent in the 36 early Mercs they currently operate numbered between 1515 - 1627

Doesn't surprise me that the omnilinks are likely to go to Walsall as I thought this was a possibility and mentioned it earlier on in this thread due to Walsall already having half of the 58 reg omnilinks. The merc's are not that bad in Coventry compared to the ones used at West Bromwich / Pensnett and Wolverhampton after spending most of their life's in and around Birmingham.

I think it's 27 Eclipse vehicles which are being delivered + 10 Enviro 400 - 15 Scanias, meaning up to 22 Mercs can be let go.
Though I suspect that the actual number will be less than this, since PVR of the 8/8a will have to increase to be able to operate with these smaller vehicles!
It is good that the 10 and 16(a) will be DD operated soon, and a surprise that 8(a) will not.

CV still has 44 Mercedes O405N - 36 of the slightly older variety, some of those are starting to look pretty ragged. Oddly the NXC repaints of 2008/9 look worse than those in the earlier Travel Coventry scheme, that livery has weathered & lasted well. Cov received 38 of the type originally [1540-55/95-1616] and we've ended up with more of them, not less, over the last 15 years.

I agree the photo of 1539 I have linked is a prime example of this the photo was taken in 2011 the bus entered service in June 1998 so after 13 years it still looks immaculate and as good as new externally without a single repaint and still has it's original fleet numbers above the door and above the drivers window.

When attending the Your Public Transport Matters event in Coventry last Wednesday NXC stated the Bendibuses will be lasting five or six more years in Coventry!

The Mercedes in Coventry are in dreadful state compared with similar generation low floor Dennis Darts that operate for Stagecoach and other operators.
Many of Coventry's original Mercedes were switched with higher mileage ones that had been in Birmingham.

If Wrights already have the chassis numbers, that means the bodies are already under construction, so not too far away. The fact 20 are already on the production line tells me the first ones are almost finished

I do hope 7019 follows suit, along with 1931-1953 with any luck! Terrible buses, I hate them!

Having said that, I hope they don't go the other way and have some ex Cov ones arriving to make the 37 100% DD, or the 1, which I have a feeling may be converted to SD in the near future.

Ideally I'd like to see AG get a new batch of buses, if not for the 11, then the 37. I reckon give within the next 2 years, we'll be seeing the next replacements for the 37.

if 2153 is now a permanent member of the fleet, will it stay at cv, and be painted/retrimmed to match the others?

The 1 has become SD on a Sunday, with only B7RLEs being used, and they easily handle the loadings. If there were enough spare on a Sunday, I'm sure they'd use them on the 5 and 31A also.

There has been a slight change to the list with a registration to fleetnumber swop! Of course all I posted originally about these was Wright were building 24 Eclipse. I have not stated anywhere all 24 are for Coventry which everyone seems to have presumed! ( I have not got the allocations for them before anybody asks)

The Wright Eclipse Gemini 2s (on Volvo B5LH hybrid chassis) have already been delivered to Wolverhampton and are in service. I don't think WN are due any more from Wrightbus, unless I've missed something here.  ::)

Windy, 5410-5430 are ADL Enviro 400 Hybrids, 5410-5421 are destined to go to WN, while 5422-5430 are for Dundee. The first few of WN's allocation have already been delivered to the garage without any markings

Thanks NX4737 for your image of a NXC liveried B7 single decker in the dreadful insipid livery inspired by Jimmy Hill.
I'll believe they are coming when I see one in the street and get on it. Mind you 2153 has pleasant dark red seats and is in another world compared with the clapped out noisy Mercs. It also doesn't have the awful grey interior on recent NXWM single deckle deckers.

I'm assuming the colour coded Coventry bus network map is an indicator of the colour of branding of further Coventry routes. This shows the 10 as a brownish bronze colour in line with John's note.

As much as I would welcome this, I don't think it's going to happen, there wouldn't be a lot of point sending the B7s to WB unless there was a sizeable amount. Besides, if WB were to get some new singles, they'd more than likely be used on services 83/89

I thought possibly the 7 new B7RLE + 2153 could go to YW for the 27, thus allowing the 9 remaining B10L to be withdrawn. But I would have thought that cascaded Omnilinks would be the better option to reduce the number of vehicle types in YW's allocation

The 15 scania's at Coventry I heard somewhere could be going to Walsall? which would probably see off the liberators and a few b6le's as well as the omnilinks being able to be used on the 34/38 which the b7rle's cannot be.

It may be 2153/4 to AG, 2122 AG back to BC & 7019 to PB to join 7020 which is already there.

Or an alternative scenario 2153/4 to BC, one replaces 2122 & releases 2123 to AG & 7019 to PB.

2153 is a former demonstrator, in all-white, which has been used at Coventry for type-training, and has now been purchased by NX. It is not one of the new buses being delivered.

The number of B7RLEs for Coventry seems to vary, depending on which Flickr photo you look at  ::), but my understanding from what I have read here and elsewhere, is that National Express Coventry confirmed on their own Facebook page last year that they would be receiving '27 new buses next year' (2013), of which 10 will be new Enviro400s, which has been stated elsewhere, which means that Coventry should get 17 B7RLEs.

Most people on flikr have just been guessing, and the 27 quoted was the minimum number required to fulfill an agreement.

2153 is the ex demo and it's allocation was not decided last time I asked; 2154 is also for a red garage, Coventry is getting 23 B7RLEs (2155-77). There are no other B7RLEs currently in build

It will be best to send both 2153 & 2154 to BC to keep Fleet Numbers together :)

My bets are on 2154 for AG. I'm not sure if 7019 is still at AG, but that would probably go to PB.

2153 is a former demonstrator, in all-white, which has been used at Coventry for type-training, and has now been purchased by NX. It is not one of the new buses being delivered.

I noticed the new vehicles at Heysham were 2155/6/7/8   plus  2171/72/73 =7 I imagine 2153 will get a paint job and join 2154 on return to AG to replace 7019/20. any idea why there should be a 12 vehicle 'gap' ie 2159-2170 at heysham? ???

Thinking logically here, and if it is true that NX are preferring to keep fleet numbers in sequence at their garages:

2122 has already gone to AG, replacing 7020 which has gone to PB.

If BC then get to keep 2153, and receive 2154 from the new order, one could assume that 2123 would then transfer to AG, replacing 7019 which will presumably also head to PB.

Therefore AG lose two Scanias, and gain 2 Urban 2s, which are replaced at BC by 2153 and the remaining 'odd' bus in the new order of 24.  :D

I wonder if the 2b6le's will get transferred out of Coventry maybe to Wolverhampton as they both had a full retrim recently and have been the only two there for a while now. How many mercs are expecting to be withdrawn I'm guessing may be 10 with the 2 b6le's maybe leaving for further use elsewhere with also the 15 omnilinks leaving.

Ash,

Don't forget that there are 33 new buses due for Coventry i.e. 23 x Volvo B7RLE & 10 x ADL E400.

I would guess that could release approx 35 older vehicles for cascasde/withdrawal, possibly comprising of 2 x B6LE, 15 x Omnilink & 18 x Mercs

The majority of those will be from the 15--/early 16-- series, but it think some of the 18 will include 1636 & 1655 which are mark II Mercs, those were originally being retained & refurb'd

Are these merc withdrawals definate when the new buses arrive? At a guess, there's 33 new buses arriving which means when you've transferred the 15 omnilinks out, the two !6s will go and the remaining 16 could be tridents transferred to WM or just mercs withdrawn and if so they'd probably withdraw the ones in TC livery but some of the T and V reg ones at CV are sheds like 1680 and 1703

20 x E400 - PB

If the 12 WN E400H were included in the total of 60, then you would also need to add in the 9 presently being delivered to Dundee.

Either way, if there are infact a further 60 standard E400's on order with 130 new buses confirmed due during 2013, there is still a quantity unidentified/unconfirmed,

9 x E400H (Dundee)
12 x E400H (WN)
9 x Volvo B5LH (WN)
25 x Volvo B7RLE comprising 1 x used (2153) + 24 new ( 23 x CV, 2 x NXWM)
60 x ADL E400 (10 x CV, 50 x ?)
Total = 115, another 15 buses still to be ordered/type confirmed

If not then don't panic its just me getting wires crossed. Because if I am right then thats 24 buses still to be ordered which is a good round number. A thought on another 50 E400s tho 97 maybe if the 24hr running goes well, or the new ones for some where else and older E400s for the 97 as the 97 does have some people who like there weed to much travel on there.

I used the 97 today in the afternoon. As the driver opened his doors on Moor Street, I was instantly knocked out by the smell of weed. Upstairs had a thick fog. We had a change driver at Digbeth and he came upstairs and sprayed his deodorant all over the upper deck, to try and mask the smell it was that bad.

The 97 does sadly have a large amount of anti social happenings on board. I always try and avoid sitting upstairs at any time due to music be played out loud, people smoking etc. Single decks are a good idea just a shame they have less seats. maybe tri-axle omnilinks would be a good idea for the route

It looks like the 9/9A will be branded in red according to this pic on the NXC facebook page

I don't know why NX don't specify the Wright bodied B7RLE's that are to be branded without the chrome grilles to allow more room for fleetnames / branding as other operators have

And I think they look better without the grille, which is only going to end up being painted over, falling off, making the bus look needlessly scruffy

I think that branding's excellent - as you say, looks like the bus is smiling.

Not sure about this Stivichall competition though - great idea by NXC to involve the community in this - but the whole principle of changing the spelling rather smacks of Hyacinth Bucket (sorry - Bouquet  ;D ) - a reflection on the community - not NXC who have done a great job obtaining publicity for the new investment - full marks!

Are these 8 going to replace Mercs?

I was on Diamond  route 82 in Coventry Bus Station at 1.10pm, when 2155, 2157 and 2156, in that order came through and headed for the garage. They were running on trade plates. I don't know if any more followed as we then moved off en route to Solihull.

My thoughts too. I guess they have used an actual picture of Dundee 2040 and photoshopped it into Coventry blue. That picture with the branding might have been made before one of the Coventry Batch was completed.

It looks as though the photo of 2040 is in Dock St depot, Dundee. Its normally the other way around, as Dundee's publicity is done in B'ham so Dundee normally have NXWM buses on its timetables/publicity

Kind of related to this, the 2003 94 timetable that was recently on ebay had a picture of 'ST02 MZN' edited to look like it was wearing 94 branding, as on the 447* Tridents. The Dundee route branding was still visible on the side.

It amuses me that National Express are seen as positive when it uses the local media to find out the name of a suburb in it's own city, but is incapable of using it to proactively way to encourage bus travel. The bus may look happy but what I want as a customer is a reliable service supplied by motivated staff led by visionary individuals who are committed to transforming bus travel in the city. 2153 has a pleasant interior but these new buses wear the insipid livery spawned when Conservatives ran the council for a short period of time together with ghastly grey interiors. Shiny new buses they may be but it will be the same shoddy service where customers come last!

662 was working on the 13/A. 586 was working on the 3/3A at today. 1542 is being to withdrawn. I guess next 1596 or 1602 will be withdrawn. 1597 is really loud when engine turn on always noise " Clamp" every 2-3min during engine working.

Most CV Mercs are normal sound expect only 1597 is really good condition. 1597 has recently fitted the new advert for weekly prices.

I honestly fail to see how the Mercs look anything other than absolutely ancient.
Compare them with the standard single deck models which other operators use and in my opinion there is a massive difference.
I appreciate that there might be even worse at other NX depots, but that doesn't make Coventry's examples any better.
Title: Re: 23 New Buses
Post by: JoNi on May 16, 2013, 01:01:44 PM
586 and 662 went last weekend apparently to have fronts repainted for further use by NX. Various sources have quoted different depots so won't comment here.

The new single deckers (2155/2156/2157, 2171 so far used) have settled down onto the 9/A, workings on other routes will be recorded under unusual workings.

I think 8(a) is a more fitting route to upgrade, as then the whole corridor Station - City Centre - Ansty Road will be upgraded at once.
However, if the 16(a) is still to become fully decker-allocated (not certain?), a couple more double-deck vehicles might be needed to ensure that this can be achieved, bearing in mind that the 10 currently uses fewer DD's than the 8(a).
(This is unless, perversely, the 10 sees fewer DD's in the future!)

2171 appeared this after with lime green branding and worked afternoon 9A/12/20A/20 working

2155/2157 appeared with sky blue branding under lower deck window saying "Another new bus for you"
Presumably a couple will be used for route 1 which won't have it's own branding.

I've heard rumours about the 8/A getting Enviros but commitment never was NXCs forte!
In the Coventry Network Review route 9/A was colour coded blue as Stagecoach's X15/18 had already taken red! Never mind.

Hadn't realised just how similar the NX branding is to Stagecoach's, the branding on the NX E200s is almost identical in style to the Stagecoach 48. The lime green certainly suits the Stagecoach livery better.

Have any of the omnilinks been transferred out of Coventry yet or is it preference to withdraw some of the older mercs (along with the 2 b6le's that have gone) first. Has it been confirmed for definite where the omnilinks are going.
Not yet, Scanias will be gone around in June! 9/A has nearly complete B7RLE PVR! 20's has 3 B7RLE and some more B7RLE still order for 20's. When 13 B7RLE start on the 20's tht scanias will leave but only 3 B7RLE moment.

Today, I have been spoken with NXC Inspector in front Bus Station. He say" All mercs still around in coventry expect 1542 are withdrawn and One B6LE at WN and 586 still in garage awaiting for collect it. Start to replace, withdrawn and transferred will be in June."

All the mercs in Coventry are withdrawn very much doubt that even with all the new buses entering service the mercs in NX Coventry livery I would think will remain for now along with any T and V reg Travel Coventry livery mercs.

I take it that 1547 is withdrawn (although still on-site at Coventry possibly) leaving 1548 as the oldest bus still in service?

Not all mercs going to withdrawn! Engineering has been replace the old logo and fitting the new logo on only R,S,T,V with NX livery!

- Lost 15 Scanias in June and transferred to WA for route on 34/38.

- 2 B6LE to WN.

- Some mercs will additional fleet for changes bus on the 9th June! For e.g- Extra peak times on 5,7 and 23 will be Every 15min but before 26th Feb was Every 30min. 2/3 will extra buses for timekeeping on timetable and 13/A will extra buses for rest in terminate 4-5min.

- On the 9 June- 16/A will full operate on Double decker and Service 10 could get New ADL when the spare will going on the 11/12.
Not sure about 18/A maybe converts to Double Decker????

New timetables now on NXCs website allow the following conclusions are drawn

Services 5 and 7 will still be every 30 minutes providing combined 15 minute service to Coundon.
Same number of buses as now, some workings start earlier to cover for separation of Middlemarch journeys to 27A

Allesley Park retains 15 minute provided by service 23 requiring 3 buses.

Cheylesmore served by routes 2 and 3 each every 20 minutes providing combined 10 min service to Quinton Road - currently 7.5 mns
This will require 5 buses.

Toll Bar End served by route 27 off peak hourly requires 1 bus - currently every 30 mins on route 3A

Overall new 2, 3, 23 and 27 timetables require 9 buses against current 2/3/3A which requires 10 buses.

Route 13 appears to require one more bus in morning peak.

Route 16 journeys which are double deck currently are for specific flows of school traffic.
The 19 journeys need to be double deck but this can be facilitated by interworking buses from other routes.

Looking at the timetables, it seems that the 27 might well interwork with the 42, as I think was suggested by someone before the timetables were announced, in which case keeping time wouldn't be nearly so difficult.
This would make a lot of sense.

I do worry about just 2 minutes' layover being given at Toll Bar End though: even with the five minutes given on the 3a, that was very often not enough to recover from late running.

Is this official that the 19 is to be 100% DD-operated?

Not really, In 7am most happen 19 is to be single decker expect can use double decker are not 100% and Evening peak time over 3pm can be seen almost double decker on the 19. Sometime when Double Decker is empty in garage and pick up single decker swap to other route from double decker then double decker go on the school route then peak time 12 route.

Route 19 info is not official, just common sense as the morning single deck buses are usually full. The 08:22 was converted to double deck in last set of changes.

We know the new 2 and 3 will interwork at Fenside for every journey, but it's also interworking with the 23 service during the evenings and on Sundays, but hopefully we will see B7RLEs allocated on Sundays otherwise it's an awful lot of work resetting the route number and destination with roller blinds.  ::)

They may just opt to leave the rear and side blinds blank, or just position the rear blind so that it shows the bottom of the '2' and the top of the '3', like they used to with the 128/9

Drivers have shown "9 9A" on the rear they could show "2323"for 2,3,23!.

Seriously it's pretty daft interworking routes 2 and 3 with the 23 as they terminate in different city centre locations, especially as Cheylesmore ends up with a 20/40 minute service in the evenings and on Sundays.

This is undoubtedly because it is a Centro tendered operation to meet the needs of the Finance Department rather than the customer.

I'm hoping the new 2/3 route within the City Centre will be via Quadrant and Corporation Street in both directions, and not via the current 3/3A loop. Longer scheduled dwell time at Trinity St during the core daytime, and the certain journeys interworking service 23 are two reasons why it shouldn't be a big loop in the City centre.

Just seen tonys pictures of 4880-84. They look to be getting branding with the front fleet name omitted. Shame to see they have standard seats, it looks as though the leather phase is well and truly over!

I quite like the branding style that has been adopted by NX, so of the earlier attempts were pretty naff, but the latest attempts are pretty smart. NX just seem a bit limited on what colours go well with NXWM red particularly

It does seem like in Coventry, that the new buses are all over the place at the minute. New Enviro400s on the 9, 13, 11, 12, plus alongside other Enviro400s on the 21 and the Volvos on the 5 and 10, as well as their intended routes.

They should start to settle down onto their intended routes when all are in service and are branded for their respective routes.

No, not the NX services, only Stagecoach 48 goes to Nuneaton.

20 to Bedworth, not far from Nuneaton and the 20A to Bell Green

It's definitely possible to find a bus which takes over an hour to do Coventry - Nuneaton.
Check out the 55 which goes around Keresley (one per hour), taking an hour and ten minutes for the full journey.

Oh right!
Erm, sorry about that then.

For general quickness and accessibility, Stagecoach's 48 is the best to travel from Coventry to Nuneaton.
http://www.stagecoachbus.com/PdfUploads/Timetable_32060_48.pdf
The service is every 10 minutes and the journey takes 45 minutes.

The confusing thing is that the 48 will most likely be displaying 'Atherstone' or 'Leicester'.
If you see a bus with 'Nuneaton' on the front (a 55 or 56) then it will get you there, but using a much more convoluted (though more interesting) route.

The 20 is run by National Express Coventry and goes near to Bedworth train station, but not quite to it.
The timetable is here: http://nxbus.co.uk/files/NXCoventry/current_timetables/C020_22Apr12.pdf
It runs every 10 minutes during the day.
Don't catch the 20a or 20e though, as you won't end up in Bedworth! :D

Your best bet is to get off at Bedworth town centre (the bus stop is next to a huge Iceland) and follow http://goo.gl/maps/0u7Cy
This isn't the quickest way to get there, but it's probably for the best than advising you to get off at an obscure stop and giving an even more obscure route to the station!

All of the above can be caught in Trinity Street Coventry.

The 20A was numbered 40 until Feb 2012, matching other Foleshill Rd services ending in '0' - looked and sounded better if you ask me and avoided any potential confusion.

I agree that they should have different numbers, but wasn't keen on them being so far apart with other numbers in between, e.g. 21, 32, 33, 36.
It would be much better in my opinion if they were just plain old consecutive numbers like 70, 71 and 72.
Though I could understand the 20e being say 70a as it is pretty much just a 'short' 20 which uses the loop to turn around.

By the way, not that many people seem to get on around the Oban Road area on the 20e in my experience.
Wouldn't it have been feasible to run one of these journeys per hour (or half hour) straight up Foleshill and on to Hawkesbury, to avoid all of the negative press involved and eventual removal of a service to the city centre: I'm sure they'd get at least an equal number of passengers.

Matt,

NXC currently have 10 x E400's + 23 x B7RLE entering service = 33 new buses in total, however, they are loosing 15 x 58 plate Omnilinks in the process to a NXWM garage. That will result in a nett gain of only 18 new buses @ NXC, as they currently have a fleet of 41 x Mercs & 1 x B6LE, only around half the current Merc fleet will be replaced at most. I expect the best of the R & S reg batches will be retained by NXC along with all the T & V-reg ones currently allocated

I would have thought that NXC will retain some Mercs even after the new E400's & B7RLE's have all entered service. NXC currently have 41 x Mercs

Think 1605 1606 and 1612 may have been withdrawn.

I've never known a garge put on a duplicate before. Was 1602 really sent out because 2166 didn't have enough room?

Yes what i means  ;) and 1602 nd 2166 was working same from Bus station leave at 07:50 but 1602 terminate at University then working on 42 and 2166 carry to Leamington Spa. Morning and Afternoon peaks are very busy!

It sounds like they're on different workings and they just happened to leave Pool Meadow at the same time due to the many reasons NXC seem to have for journeys running late and even, in cases such as this, beginning late.
It is very common for bunching to happen on the 11/12, and in some cases this is even timetabled: for instance two vehicles are scheduled to depart Earlsdon City Arms towards the University at 0842, Monday-Friday.

Unless you're absolutely certain that NXC put an extra vehicle on?

It sounds like the 42 is intended to be single-deck-operated once again, which would mean the 12's it interworks with would always be single-deck.
If management really do think that single-deckers have to be assigned duplicates on this particular working, then logically it would have to see two vehicles every day.

How can NXC not have enough double deckers in the garage? They've just had 10 extra brand new ones.....

Winston, You can see some Double Decker in repair area for repair something fault.

In 10am, Saw only 6 Double Decker in garage for school routes and 11/12 peak times but Yesterday lots a double decker in garage around 10am.

Hmm, that is an interesting state of affairs!
I have seen the inspectors about a bit on routes 11/12 lately, and two were actually travelling on a Merc on the route until it became full, at which point they jumped off, assumedly to assess how much inconvenience is caused to those who would be on the vehicle if it had had two decks.
Or maybe I'm reading too much into it and they were just freeing up space for intending passengers!

2157 was on the 1 today:
http://tinypic.com/r/2m4tzd3/5

As far as I have seen, it's the first day for an Eclipse to be on the 1.
But I haven't seen the 1 for a while, so I could be wrong about that.

Nice photo, but looks like a bit of over-exposure on the white of the bus.

I completely agree with you: after noticing the vehicle and reaching for my camera, I literally only had time to turn it on and press the shutter button!

I know exactly what you mean. Its always annoying when you see something and wish you had the camera out but you know if you get it out the shot has gone. :(

I'm going to try and get a bit of auto-exposure on Photoshop. Hell, if its any good I'll upload it again, if its OK with you?

Some people tried to add a bit to the 8(a) livery on the protest about moving the city's football club from the stadium:
