The 247 & 248 were circular services between Stourbridge and Dudley.

The 247 went from Stourbridge, Pedmore Fields, Lye, Merry Hill, Brierley Hill, Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley, Netherton, Old Hill, Halesowen, Hasbury, Colley Gate, Pedmore Fields & Stourbridge.

The 248 went in the reverse route.

the A variants would have a slight route variation in Old Hill.

Certain of the PE B6s had extra large fuel tanks fitted for these routes as in the early days (501 - 508 i think), it was quite common for buses to run out of fuel.

247/248 look like preety good routes to ride on, by the looks of it,, parts were replaced by the 297

During the day, it took nearly two hours to do the circle, evenings & Sundays hour & a half.

So its the PE Version of the 11A/C, was it just B6LE's used or was it a mix ?

Lynx when ran by DY and WB then B6 mon to Friday and B10L on a saturday was the allocation back to B6 on a sun as the B10l's were used for the 120 on a sunday at PN. Then finished with Mercs that made the route much easier. The Route was replaced by 276 extension, 297 extension and new service 242 by NX then 242 was cut from stour to dy to dy to Halesowen and diamond introduced the 142 to replace stour to Halesowen section. Miss the 247/8 was fun to drive!

I remember the 247/248 when first it came to PE from WB. I think they did Winston, although when they ran the combined 15 mins frequency was when i think BCCs passengers started to dwindle. I find it interesting that Diamond have never taken an interest in the 276?

Diamond don't seem to be intrested in starting any new commercial routes in competition with NX. Additionally the number of existing commercial services that compete with NX are falling year on year

Drove the 247/8 route at west brom and pensnett have done the route in deckers from west brom before the A route was introduced no I'm not going through my old diarys for numbers at pensnett 501 to 509 and 544 was big tank buses as when we came down pensnett in 2000 come 1900 they would all run out of fuel lynxes mercs B10Bs and B10Ls have all been on the route

Never knew they converted 544, explains it numerous appearances on the 247/8.

Managed to recreate the 247 this afternoon going Halesowen - Halesowen although cheated slightly by staying on the 142 to Stourbridge as didn't fancy the long wait for the 298. Took just under 3 hours in total.

13:58 142 Halesowen to Stourbridge (20852 - MPD)
14:35 276 Stourbridge to Merry Hill (1573)
15:35 297 Merry Hill to Russells Hall (1518)
about 15:50 246 Russells Hall to Dudley (4811)
16:17 243 Dudley to Old Hill (1536)
16:40 244 Old Hill to Halesowen (1665)
arrived at Halesowen 16:55

There was a 10 minute wait at Stourbridge, 20 minute wait at Merry Hill, 15 minute wait at Dudley and 10 minute wait at Old Hill so subtracting waiting times the round trip was just over 2 hours.

How long would a round trip on the 247 have taken?

Just been going through some old stuff & found the original timetable for the 247/8, it started on 15 September 1985 and originally went through Pensnett between Brierley Hill & Dudley. First 247 of the day was at 06:25 from Stourbridge arriving back at 08:17.

On the same day, another new service was introduced, the 243 which ran between Dudley & Fatherless Barn. Before then the 244 had run between Fatherless Barn & Wednesbury.

A few weeks later, another new service, this time the 241 between Dudley & Halesowen which  replaced the 205 which had previously run between Dudley & Halesowen.

Correct Winston, but also the 294. they had interworked for a while meaning you could travel from Halesowen to Russells Hall.
