I believe the 247 and 248 came to an end as a result of the Dudley Network Review; while a nice route for enthusiasts, clearly the regular passengers felt otherwise!  :P

Did they last that long, i thought at one time there was a 242 between Stourbridge & Dudley via halesowen, later curtailed to operate between Dudley and Halesowen before being withdrawn.

Is it possible to exactly recreate the 247/8 combining today's routes?

I don't know the exact route it took between the various places but looking at the route I'd guess

276 Stourbridge - Pedmore - Lye - Merry Hill
222 Merry Hill - Brierley Hill - Russels Hall - Dudley
244 (or 243 route from Dudley - Netherton then 244?) Dudley - Netherton - Old Hill - Halesowen
142 Halesowen - Hasbury - Colley Gate - Pedmore - Stourbridge

So is the rest correct then? Which route did it take between Dudley and Netherton, the 243 or 244?

The 247 & 248 were the result of joining two routes together, the 294 Stourbridge to Dudley and the 297 Dudley to Stourbridge via Halesowen.

Birmingham Coach Company for a while tried to run on the 247/8 between Stourbridge & Dudley running 5 minutes in front of TWM, although the route was cut back to run between Stourbridge & Merry Hill before being withdrawn all together.

Monday to Saturday evenings WMSNT operate the 297. Their last 297 gets into Merry Hill just before 23:30 though

Anyone remeber the route for the old 242/242A/243A

The 242/A were brilliant routes, a half hourly between Halesowen and Dudley (evenings and Sundays), you couldn't go wrong, unfortunately passenger numbers were low and I think that's why they got withdrawn. 243A was a variant of the 243 ran by Diamond, when it got extended to Merry Hill, the 243A ran Dudley to Timbertree (the old 243 route)

The 247/A & 248/A were much better  ;)

Which route were the 247/247A, 248/A ??

Thanks Sh4116

The 247 & 248 were circular services between Stourbridge and Dudley.

The 247 went from Stourbridge, Pedmore Fields, Lye, Merry Hill, Brierley Hill, Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley, Netherton, Old Hill, Halesowen, Hasbury, Colley Gate, Pedmore Fields & Stourbridge.

The 248 went in the reverse route.

the A variants would have a slight route variation in Old Hill.

Certain of the PE B6s had extra large fuel tanks fitted for these routes as in the early days (501 - 508 i think), it was quite common for buses to run out of fuel.

247/248 look like preety good routes to ride on, by the looks of it,, parts were replaced by the 297

During the day, it took nearly two hours to do the circle, evenings & Sundays hour & a half.

So its the PE Version of the 11A/C, was it just B6LE's used or was it a mix ?

In the early days it was just B6s as that was the main bus at PE at the time. although am sure that Mercs, B10B & B10Ls also worked it.

Lynx when ran by DY and WB then B6 mon to Friday and B10L on a saturday was the allocation back to B6 on a sun as the B10l's were used for the 120 on a sunday at PN. Then finished with Mercs that made the route much easier. The Route was replaced by 276 extension, 297 extension and new service 242 by NX then 242 was cut from stour to dy to dy to Halesowen and diamond introduced the 142 to replace stour to Halesowen section. Miss the 247/8 was fun to drive!
