Glad that's cleared up! Do the 2 and 3 still interchange at Birmingham, or do they operate on their own running boards, does anyone know?

Last time I was in Birmingham yes all the 2/3's I saw interworked Stu :)

Thanks, I knew it was the case before, but wasn't sure if things had changed since. So any bus spotted on the 2 would also appear on the 3 (and vice versa). I did also see 4799 on the 3 this evening as I left work about 5:30pm heading into town. (I started a new job this week on Bradford Street)
My locals:
2 - Birmingham to Maypole | 3 - Birmingham to Yardley Wood
11A/C - Birmingham Outer Circle | 27 - Yardley Wood to Frankley
76 - Solihull to Northfield | 169 - Solihull to Kings Heath

They are all on "2" running boards but they only interwork at peak times, daytime 20 minute services stay on their route, although if you ask me the whole 3 business as it is now is silly.

According to the timetable they don't. And they certainly don't on evenings/Sundays. They do interwork at peaks though. Off peak 3s enter Birmingham at 09, 29, 49 and leave at 10, 30, 50

4698 out on the 50 today. Not sure if it is a loan or transfer.

Gah, that'll upset the boys! Don't know why though, a bus is a bus - even if it is the first one!

One thing Daimler Mercedes Benz are good at is producing excellent Diesel engines, I do miss the sound of the 0405n for all its faults you couldn't knock that 12 litre engine.

I'm delighted but not surprised to hear 4698 is down here now, it makes much more sense than keeping it at PB.

To me its just another E400 ::) but with a Euro 3 engine  8).

Obviously the 'Spirit of London' LX55 HGC was the first E400 to be built (4 Speed Euro 3 Voith) and TWM (BX55 XOA)and Metro line (LK55 XXF) had a 55 plate E400 each (Euro 3 5 Speed ZF)

Ashley

Wasn't 4698 the second Enviro 400 to be built?

Yes as i mentioned above. It replaced the trident destroyed in the 7/7 bombing

Wish 4698 had been made Voith not a naff ZF, would be a much better bus! As it is it's my least favourite "Enviro400" in the fleet, yes I even prefer the Euro 5 ones

Tbh I think the 4 speed Voith Tridents are the best in the fleet. And I agree the ZF's are pretty naff (Apart from 4560,4589,4541 and 4609 IMO).

Ashley

Without hijacking the topic just to add my view on Nathan's post. 4589 is the best of those four and has the most omfortable interior despite it not having been refurbished yet

Apoligies. Back on topic.....

Personally speaking, I don't know why such fuss is made about whether a bus has a Voith or ZF automatic gearbox; it's just a gearbox after all.

From a passenger's perspective, it doesn't really make any difference at all.

That is just my opinion. (It's like saying a Vauxhall Astra with an F17 gearbox is better than one with an F23 gearbox, the average driver/passenger couldn't tell the difference ;) )
