Something strange happened just now to 4825 on the 9 this evening.

It was already going at a high speed in a high gear on a downhill carriageway, then the bus kicked down a gear! It then seemed to get stuck at maximum revs in that gear, before seeming to go into neutral, with the driver revving the engine (whilst passing cars at around 45mph). It then went back down through the gears when slowing down for an island.

4825 has always been known as a fast bus and for its over-overrevving (yes 2 overs!) but this time it proved a little too powerful for its own good!

It is physically impossible for a bus to be doing 45mph in anything other than top gear. It is possible it dropped out/Was taken out of gear altogether, in which case if the driver still has his foot on the accelerator it would go to high revs. When the driver then braked he would be able to drop it back into gear while slowing down causing the normal drops down as it slowed
45mph in a lower gear ????

Right, I'm going out on the 9's until I find it. Only seen 4818 this evening

nitromatt1

If it's still out it should do the 21:30 from Colmore Row, then out of service at Stourbridge. Will try and intercept it on its way back to Stourbridge, would've just gone past my stop but didn't see anything

In no gear, not a lower gear
