I would imagine that last year NX found there was a bit of a drop-off in passengers from the start of June.

Universities are winding down, maybe school exams mean fewer peak time passengers.  And, just a guess, but maybe more working people are taking holidays/leave in June?

Also this Year the Olympics, Euros, Glastonbury, Wimbledon also means parents might be taking kids off school. They shouldn't be they do. I've seen loads of English and Scottish Kids at the Euros all of whom will get fined. Some Colleges also finish early depending on your course.

Why reduce in June when the schools don't finish until mid July

Traffic get lighter from June as more people are on holiday so timings can be reduced.
