Depot visits

I've visited many garages (My expeditions involve me staying on the outside) the only 1 time I've seen/ encountered a security guard was ironically at BY when I was told not to photograph the garage

I guarantee you there are security guards with dogs in some garages, trespassing not advised

I know but thats a boring all out side depot, Im thinking some more interesting like WA/AG/BC ones where not many people get to see inside.  :)

I did surgest to Tony, if we did have tours of the garages, it will stop temptation of people "just going in" with no staff with them etc

We did WA a little while ago, was very interesting!

Problem is you can't keep having depot tours all the time as people would loose interest, you need a decent number of people to attend so that it's worth while.

I think you have to ring/write to the depot asking if its possible to do a visit. I have always wanted to do West Broms depot as i grew up on Dartmouth Street not far from the depot.

If you are photographing buses in the depot from the road on public property then that is perfectly legal and nobody can legally stop you from doing it.

As for having Security Guards (and Security Guards with dogs) at bus depots - that does seem a bit rediculous - i dont think that bus depots are that dangerous places and i doubt that anyone would walk in to a bus depot and start vandalising vehicles.

You would think the security guards would know if anyone is allowed to take a photo !

Buses are usually parked up with their doors open which can theoretically mean any one can quickly jump on and drive out, so in many regards have security there does make sense !

Why is it rediculous? Several garages were targeted in burglaries involving Cash Vaults within the past year hence theincreased security...

Am sorry, but @countryliner are you serious. At NE garages there is always something going on, and you just can't have people wondering about unescorted. It's not a case of vandalism, it's a case of people walking in uninvited and getting seriously injured or worse because nobody knows they are there!!

Some people used to walk into AG and they apparently stole a couple of bikes, and a motorbike, and then vandalised a couple cars. Not sure about buses. People also break in to steal the ticket rolls for some reason. Must be making fake ones lol. They seal it now. Not sure if any of you have seen the gate at AG.

If NXWM gave change and did not have fareboxes then that would not have been a problem as the money would have been with the driver or in the office and not left in the farebox on the vehicles.

I have never heard of any other bus operators having Security Guards in their bus depots. I am surprised that people would just walk in to a depot and have a look around or start stealing stuff. I am sure it would happen occasionaly but i would not think that it would be a regular occurance.

If the driver gave change then you would see a dramatic increase of robberies and violence on buses themselves.

I like the idea of walking into a garage and having an innocent look around although being realistic, you don't want to be in the same space as a 10+ tonne vehicle moving around. Their is no harm in having security their, its prevention if anything
