Excuse my ignorance on this but what exactly is the difference between the earlier and the latest E400s? I understand the newer ones are Euro 5 but what difference does this mean in practice? Not been on one of 4830 onwards.

I heard somewhere that the engine had been improved

Worsened! The Euro 5 engine is slow and boring in comparison.

All new engines are generally setup for optimum fuel consumpsion and not performance, as that is what bus operators are constantly looking for manufacturers to continually improve, additionally reducing unladen weights of new vehicles through using lighter weight materials / composite sections etc. Fuel is one of the biggest costs to bus operators.....

I was just giving my opinion, with my enthusiast hat on, not my MD of NXWM hat. ;)

It's looking like the Trident may be the final brilliant bus for enthusiasts.

Are they? I haven't seen that much of a difference in speed between the two engines, besides, they're both ZF. Although, I suppose we will see the real potential of these recent Enviros when they're used on the 900 to Coventry

Well, I have always been perhaps too observant, but the better Euro 4s are definitely faster than the Euro 5s

I'm with Matt on this one. Euro4 is much better in my opinion then 5. Just like the Euro AdBlu tridents, terrible imho. But like Winston said its about fuel economy.

One thing Daimler Mercedes Benz are good at is producing excellent Diesel engines, I do miss the sound of the 0405n for all its faults you couldn't knock that 12 litre engine.

Did I fall asleep for a hundred years and miss something...?

Mind you I never did much like the Metrobus until it became an endangered species.
Don't you start.

By final I mean the most recent to go out of production. I believe the Trident 2 went out of production in 2010?

I have always loved the Metrobus and will miss them when they finally go, but they haven't been produced for over 20 years

The Real 4778

It's ok, I was winding you up - it's just that I personally can't stand Tridents (the ALX400 seems anonymous grey porridge to me), and it would be awful to think they were the last 'real' bus.
Don't you start.

I do hope that PB will replace, or even better, order some new Eclispe Gemini 2's for the Sutton Lines Fleet, possibly with a Branding, however there is a very slim chance of this happening! :(

Going by recent orders, it'll probably be some more Enviro 400s, some Scania Omnicities would be nice though

NXWM used to favour dual sourcing for double deckers but Volvo seem to have fallen out of favour since the B9TL replaced the B7TL. I assumed this was due to capacity issues with them having a shorter wheelbase, but there are long wheel based versions out there, although I think it's only Lothian that have them? I'd like to see some B9s in the fleet, I like the Volvo / Wright combination.

As much as I like the enviro's, the new ones don't do it for me. I would like a few different types like Gemini's, but I guess they get a bigger discount by buying them all in bulk from one manufacture. How about some Volvo/scania enviro's? Stagecoach seem to have switched to the scania ones from dennis recently

Or some Voith Trident Enviros. I'd welcome them with open arms
