I think that will be withdrawn, as Chaserider intend to operate the 5 every 30 mins, so no need for the X5.
My locals:
2 - Birmingham to Maypole | 3 - Birmingham to Yardley Wood
11A/C - Birmingham Outer Circle | 27 - Yardley Wood to Frankley
76 - Solihull to Northfield | 169 - Solihull to Kings Heath

Edit - thinking about it i wouldnt be surprised if they are used on it
I think they currently use a mixture of E200MMC and Evora on the 5

At the moment they use anything. Come the 16th May that will have to change to euro 6 buses on there and it'll be a 2 bus working with 1 bus on late night and they cant justify the evoras on there. Only suitable is either E200 MMC's or euro 6 E200's or if 62 is fixed by that point then 62 & 64 could be used on there

Wonder if the 5 will run off the back off the 70 to enable the drivers to get there breaks / swaps in cannock  like the 828/74 cycles

I was speaking to one of the Chaserider drivers and he thinks that the 70 will change to a 5 and the 5 to a 70 throughout the day as its the reason that the 70 is going to start using the bus station. Don't know that for definite though

Least it'll mean better buses on the 70

The tender is for a 3 bus working, if you look at the timetable 1 h 16 a round trip.

Looking at the new timetables on Chaserider's website, that would make sense.

The 70 and 71 are due to arrive in Wolverhampton Bus Station 8-9 minutes before departures on the 5, and the 5 gets back to Wolves Bus Station 9 minutes before the 70/71 departure for Cannock.  This looks just right for interworking.

If that is the case, why don't they run it as a through service instead of splitting it into 2 different services?

It isn't as if long routes have not been run before!

I don't have any connection with Chaserider so I wouldn't know.  However, if the 70 and 71 are commercial (I think they are), it is probably best that the contracted service 5 is kept separate - just as NX West Midlands keep the commercial 48 and contracted 20 separate rather than have a West Bromwich - Bromsgrove service.

Also, it is better in my mind to have one number for the Codsall service, rather than two (the 70 and 71).  And ... is there likely to be much demand for a NE to NW Wolverhampton link via the City Centre?
