When have I not had manners?
I don't look foolish. Driving Vehicle *Standards* agency. Poor quality vehicles can actually be fined. Besides, bet you'd never say anything to Mr chamber would u

That's the description given at the PI of a couple of the vehicles
strange situation isnt it? as if they were that bad and appealed that decision, although they could carry on operating if they were that bad surely the appeal would have been rejected and them being finished. However maybe they have made some changes in the mean time and got their act together? I agree vehicles should be clean, but in this weather thats a difficult job

Not really know what that means. I listen to the public every day and everyone of them prefers to pay £2 than £2.90, if they wish to pay a cash fare, on any bus, dirty or clean. The public generally travel by bus because they cannot afford, or are unable to use, any other form of transport. All they want is to get from A-B at an affordable price. At Kev's we choose to charge a maximum £2.40 per single fare but if Express can afford to only charge £2 then good luck to them. When franchising kicks in then fares will be reduced but local taxes will go up to pay for it. When the political landscape changes then fares will go up and local taxes come down, nothing changes other than the large bus operators, and bus builders, will still make large profits.

That was due to the Government raising it to £3 TFWM were gonna raise the price anyway, NX need to make money, Let's go are gonna find out that Charging £2 will struggle to pay overheads. Franchising will only put fares up

So what percentage of an operators income do you think comes from single cash fares ?

The government didn't force any operator to charge £3, they simply capped them at £3, like how they were capped at £2 before. Bus companies can charge less than £3 if they wish to do so.

They can also charge more, so what is your point ?

Times must be hard for TE. The £2 didn't last long. They're now charging £2.40

The buses might be crap but it doesn't put people off using them

It was never going to be sustainable for them when it's a high frequency route with competition.

The buses are absolutely shocking and I'm gobsmacked that VOSA haven't pulled them recently as they are the same buses that got them under scrutiny.

It may not put people off using them, but do they know or understand the type of operator they are? Some will see them as a cheaper option to NX, though they won't be on the route forever (be that they can't compete commercially, or bus franchising hits first).

Personally, after I caught one last month, I won't be catching another!!!

Whenever I have used them I have found them to be decent, the drivers speak to you, the buses themselves for me seemed no more dirty than NXWM buses & they got me to my destination in a decent time. People on here seem to thing NX are the best and everyone else is third rate, which isn't always the case

Appreciate your opinion and insight, though I'd recommend (if you haven't already done so) @woody38 , spending some time reading the Traffic Commissioner's decision to understand WHY there's a strong feeling against Mr. Chumber and his third rate operation (for the record, I don't think they're third rate - I'd put them far less than that!)

Decision for Travel Express Ltd (PD1140735) & Transport Managers: Mr Kishan Chumber & Nirmal Johal - GOV.UK

I doubt very much that their buses are washed as frequently as NX, as you've compared, or that their maintenance programmes are anywhere near as rigorous as other bus companies.

Personally, and having worked with the closely for a number of years in various capacities, I absolutely DO think that NX are the leading operator in terms of their safety record, maintenance records and their far greater reputation with the Traffic Commissioner, compared to Mr. Chumber.

In my experience, NX drivers are no less friendly or chatty, in fact (and terribly remiss of me), a recent journey on a packed, late running WA9 service demonstrated that, no matter how stressed the driver could've been, he remained friendly and professional, driving a bus that hadn't previously been scrutinised by the Traffic Commissioner for immediate prohibition (see section 8.1 Maintenance for the evidence).

Still, if it gets you to your destination in a decent time, what does safety matter?
