The Kings Ferry will be expanding outside of its traditional Kent operating area with the award of a contract from North Somerset council to provide two new commuter coach services in Bristol & South Gloucestershire from the Autumn requiring 4 coaches

A quote from oxford Chiltern bus page:
"We are not undertaking much private hire work out of this depot at the moment, although we are covering a number of NatEx duplicate services on the 040, 509 and 444 at weekends. Plans are that we will begin taking on more private hire and other work in the new year once the commuter service is fully established."
so could this see nx set up a depot in avonmouth? stepping on rotala's toes?? ;)

They already have a depot in Avonmouth located at the Volvo dealership. Don't see any reason why they couldn't expand from their existing base. When you say NX setup a depot, do you mean bues or NX coach routes?
Bristol City Council are actively looking to attract new competition, but can't see NX being interested in setting a bus operation up from scratch
it seems very much a coach operation. but the 040's are a big earner for the company and it seems a good sound logical expansion

Kings Ferry could take over all the NX work currently subcontracted out to South Gloucestershire Bus & Coach, but I doubt they will as NX don't really seem interested in operating in-house . NX Ops couldn't have setup a B'ham depot when Veolia wanted out, but instead they chose to sub-contract out all the work to Whittle's / DeCourcey & Rotala instead. Same when NX Ops closed Crawley depot, much of the work went to sub-contractors instead
The Kings Ferry are now advertising private coach hire within Somerset

Last time I saw that it was in Cambridge doing shuttles to the immigrant detention centre. I remember bashing that when Ludlows had it on loan, my mate got a pic of it at Merry Hill!

National Express

That's a good purchase and compliments The Kings Ferry, Clarkes has a good name & reputation for quality.
Nice to see NX buy a UK based business.
Interesting.....very interesting. What it does is that this brings in a base in Catford, which could help with vehicles that need servicing and so on.

Clarkes base on Google Earth seems quite similar to TKF's base at Gillingham, the Catford base appears to be a bit too far from Canary Wharf (for parking of TFK coaches during the daytime) & Central London etc. I suspect they will remain as seperate entities under NX and just work together.
Has anyone come across a fleetlist for Clarkes of London anywhere?

Redwing would make another useful acquisition target to complement the growing NX commuter / private hire businesses.
I have 6 photographs of Clarkes vehicles in my files, they are now all on the main site, along with the above list at
http://wmbusphotos.com/NXWM/Clarkes/Clarkes.html
I notice Clarkes have a base on an Industrial Estate in Rochester for their commuter coaches. It's only 9.5 miles from TKF's Gillingham base (they are on opposite of the River Medway), I can see that being rationalised in the future, with the Clarkes Commuter coaches moving in to Gillingham either as Clarkes or being re-branded under TKF.

Looks like you've got a whole heap of fleetlists to add to your NX Group collection.

I've put a Lucketts group fleet list on my website, this isn't an official one, so any corrections welcome

Thanking you in anticipation.

I have noticed that several National Express vehicles have been transferred to N.E.T.S companies and have been numbered NETS scheme, although still carrying the NatEx fleet number.
Is there a scheme to renumber NatEx coaches? And will there be a standard renumbering of the NETS fleet as opposed to the different styles currently used.
Thanking you in advance, and a Healthy, Happy New Year to you all.

There is a standard NETS numbering scheme, I hope to get the full fleet in one list on the main site over the weekend. National Express remain in the WMT range (officially with a C in front but not displayed)

Why? No point in buying an operator when you have a large garage you can just move your own coaches into.

Absolutely. I hate to imagine how many "spare" coaches operators/dealers have countrywide. My next question is has any decision been made to what brand names the Aston based coaches will carry ? To the average local customer , the names Kings Ferry , Lucketts , Mortons etc mean very little in this part of the world.

Any chance you could provide a fleet update of what's now at Aston & Wolverhampton depots?

I'm assuming the ex WMT Ltd vehicles (Woods, Aston) are still on the WMT system, whilst the Woods Leicester vehicles are on the NETS system. To be honest, the NETS fleet numbering is a big mess, even the latest version with large batches split. There are so many vehicles still carrying old or multiple fleet numbers. Plus there's a mis mash of liveries & brands working from various subsidiaries at present. The NX Coaches Ltd Network Fleet at Luton, Start Hill, Victoria & Wandsworth is all still in the WMT numbering scheme too.
Next batch of 9 now on.
I have a couple of the 23 plates, just waiting for full vehicle details before putting those on
All for Woods?

@Tony - Fyi, that update still isn't showing on the NETS fleetlist on your main site
In addition, Woods have received 3 further Scania / Levante 3's based at Leicester:
BV23ZVN
BV23ZVO
BV23ZVZ
BLOTW is quoting their fleet numbers as 366-368, but being Leicester based vehicles, they should have NETS fleetnumbers as per recent batches.

Where did 230 return from?
It's a shame that NX didn't take on the DeCourcey's batch of 17 plate Scania / Levante 2's, they'd have been really useful now instead of various operators having to re-instate 63 / 64 / 65 plate Levante's back on to the network.
It's good to see NX coaches are now growing rapidly, even against increasing competition from Flixbus. Hopefully, the profit growth for NX coaches will compensate / offset for poorer profitability at NXWM over the next few years for the combined NX UK division.
It's back, after 2 1/2 years, I have just put a load of NX Coach photos on the main site and found I photographed it at Glastonbury!

I saw 194 getting towed into Scania Avonmouth during Glastonbury one day I was picking a Z bus up from there. I have a rear end photo on my computer. 230 after withdrawal from Luton was dumped in the car park at Stansted Airport along with all the others in that batch. It got towed to Hartshornes at Willenhall when all the others in the batch came to Walsall and remained there in bits for ages. It disappeared when Hartshornes stopped doing bus repairs in Willenhall so presumably has been at Pensnett

There's only been a couple of Lucketts tri-axle coaches painted in Touromo livery to date, so that may well be the case.
Having just read the Touromo update, it sounds as though there may well be a mass withdrawal of coaches in Ocotober. It now seems a pretty pointless exercise buying all these coach companies, as many of them are focused on holidays / day trips etc.

I hadn't forgotten, but with Woods having the former Arriva Wigston depot & now much better facilities, I'd have thought they'd do their own MOT's for Wigston based vehicles.
I'd have expected Aston allocated Woods Coaches to potentially be MOT'd by NXWM WN, but not Leicester based vehicles.

Just a support function
@winston we have spare slots and also as Tony says some are randomly based at WN so makes sense to help out where we can.
Bear in mind Aston & Wigston are now twinned there will be more vehicle movements depending on what work comes in, also the size of the fleet is quite considerable now.

I think the difference with Stewarts is that they didn't do normal NX work really. They are/were pretty self contained contracts wise. Woods and Lucketts (Worthing comes under Lucketts) do actually do NX work daily and so it's just a constant money merry go round with them. It could be a much more messy split if either of these split from NXTS and it would probably lose National Express money on the coaches as a 3rd party operator will make profit. Currently of course Woods/Lucketts profit from National Express coach work.... returns to the National Express coffers.
Do Lucketts still run and operate out of Bournemouth, or is this garage now Nx Owned Ops like SH, Luton etc ?

Yes they do, the solent coaches O licence is also based there.
It's also used for all leasehire reeturn vehicles being prepped.
