Finally caught one (819) on the 46, and it was fun seeing what it can do along the Newton road. But while I was on it I was thinking, with it being a fairly well used route why have they suddenly decided to put smaller buses on it? I wouldn't say it was a particularly tight cornered route or used narrow roads at all, in fact I would say the 40/42/43 more worthy of midi buses given some of the roads they have to navigate

The 406 (46) was always traditionally B6, exactly the same size as the Enviros. It is only since the B6s started dying that Mercs have been on there

Ah ok, I just figured that they switched to using mercs because the route was popular enough to warrant bigger buses, but that would be far too logical i suppose. Although you say that I do remember the mercs were used for a fairly long period before, even seen deckers on there at times (not just peak times either)

National Express West Midlands / Road markings
February 09, 2013, 10:59:07 AM
sure I've noticed this before, in fact I'm sure someone would have brought this up on here before, but I've only just put two and two together. On the Walsall rd coming towards Stone Cross, there's some road markings of a bus with the number 404 inside... Slightly redundant now? Would there be any other such route-specific road markings anywhere?

Any possibility the £1.5M was for all of them, not just those 8?

That would put each bus at £50,000 which seems a little too cheap.

Valid, it would appear I have lost the ability to do math, nevermind

Some early morning and evening 45/46s will interwork. The normal daytime service doesn't.

They must also interwork during Sundays, as the layover times on both routes in West Bromwich are quite large

If I'm not mistaken the sundays are still Mercs? Only going on the only time I've seen a 46 yet since the new Enviro 200s came in was on sunday in hamstead and it was a merc then

never seen a x 3 at the Kidderminster with a load that a 35 seater  dart  can not handlet

if I'm honest I think it's the other end of the route which is busier, everytime I've seen it at Bromsgrove heading to redditch it's a full load (although I dont go to Bromsgrove that often now)

How are B10Ls actually getting onto the X51? It's a 20 minute service at most and 10 mins at peaks is it not?

shhh... dont say it too loud they might find out
I'd imagine its just the extra peak workings they appeared on

Centrp is the problem the only thing there interested is linking New street up with the Metrp, but what they cannot see is that only a small number of people use it, its not like Manchester which has got routes running all over the city just one route.

There should be more routes but that's a different debate

Just a thought...

Instead of going all out and providing 24 hour service on some services (even though that's what I personally think they should do), could they not do it gradually? Over time add more and more services later into the night? For example, for most routes it's pretty much last bus from city centre is midnight, first bus is 5am... how about another bus at half past midnight? See how it goes, then maybe another half hour later?

A question would it be better to just put an increased S/D service instead of just DD with the problems of anti social behaviour and people just not going upstairs.

Obvious respone to that would be - need more drivers

question for Tony would he be prepared to revenue check on Night services they do not bother on trains in the evening.

They do in the evenings on the trains sometimes, seen it a few times. Me mate sometimes does the last service to Crewe and rakes it in

Would you be willing to drive a bus into Birmingham at silly-o-clock in the morning?

I expect very few drivers would be willing.

I would (ok, granted I'd need to learn to drive first, then get a bus license and so on.... minor technicalities... ;))
