Seeing as the two teminus points on the 27 route are close together, this route could quite easily be made into a circular 27a/c by extending the current route from the Maypole through druids heath to hawkesley. This would probably only require an extra vehicle or 2 to current requirements and would open up new links for passengers in this area.

Didn't they try that before and found it has reliability issues? Mind you that could have been more to do with the fact it was linked to the 35 doing a crazy route.

Yes, there was a 27A/27C in the early 1990s, running Kings Heath - Northfield - Hawkesley - Brandwood End - Kings Heath, with through fares across Kings Heath.  After a while it was merged with the 35, running City - Kings Heath - Hawkesley - Northfield - Kings Heath!  Not surprisingly the two routes were later separated.

Circulars without a terminus are often difficult to run reliably, as it's difficult to put in place layovers with enough recovery time without upsetting passengers.  If the Outer Circle wasn't such an institution, I guess it probably would have been replaced by overlapping routes.

Couldnt they trial the 27? to see if it would actully work ?

Think its been tried dude, didnt really go well tbf was a mad route which tied in with the madder 35 at the time, and could u imagine being a driver on a circular, where would you lay over without being harrased by the windgers hehe.

I would think a layover point at Kings Heath would be feasible where the current 27/76/11a/c stop is before the High street. A five minute stop could be built in to allow for a driver changeover or make up time and this would not adversely effect any passengers.

Hmmm maybe, you both make good points, i supose if it was timetabled right it has the possibility to work and be a sucsess, its something that would have to be planned, cant help thinking the timetable would be very tight :)

If it was given more running time through Northfeild, at shopping times, it could loosen up the timetable a little

It does make sense for the route to be made into a circular. Especially given how close the two terminus points are.

Infact I'm surprised the 27 hasn't either been made into a circular service, or split into two routes. Hawkesley - Northfield & Northfield - Maypole.

vinh1000

Would be nice if split
Since 35 already goes to Kings Heath and 49 around that area to get to Maypole faster etc
To northfield would be good

Nathan4775

Couldnt the 35 be extended an the 27 amended ??

just an idea dont take of my head please  ;D

How would you extend the 35 Nathan? From Hawkesley to Northfield, and then have the 27 run Maypole to Northfield?  Sounds like a good idea.

danny

Ye dude that idea could work, when ive been on 27 alot of people normally get off on northfield high street, dont see many carrying on

All this stuff you guys are talking about has all been done before and it didn't work. Maybe about 10 years ago i think.  Not sure of the exact details but i'm sure someone else can fill you in. The buses were always late from what i remember as i used to use them in those days.
