Quote from: Jay71 on July 31, 2024, 08:47:12 PMNormal dire service on the 529 today.  Buses turning up two or three at a time
Better in pairs that not turning up at all.
Also the 529 is ran out of WN not WA.

Saw an UID Scania on the Black Country Route Yesterday heading back to Walsall as I was walking over the Canal on Wolverhampton Street. I assume it was running dead but at just after 5 I don't know if it had come of the 34/39 or had broken down

Not at all. Because if it turns up at the same time as the one behind, it's the same as it not running. Yes it may even itself out later into the route or later in the day.

A bus running in pairs on a high frequency route like that would mean one could be running what, just 10 minutes late.
With traffic on the road, roadworks, it's unavoidable.

A couple of weeks ago I was on the 39 I think and alongside out driver there was another Driver stood by the cab not chatting to our driver but I think assessing them I've heard the term Buddy Driving what is this is like for a Driving/Pilots test where you are Route and veichle trained but a more senior driver is assessing your first solo drive. Or is it one senior driver showing the newer driver assuming they are new the Veichle's characteristics or the route so they basically look at how the senior driver is driving the vehicle on the route and they then drive the next shift. At first I thought it was a colleague going home but they remained on the bus til the terminus where I got of to see family. There  had been On the bus before I got On in Walsall to so I gathered our driver who would be driving was being assessed

It's a buddy driver. When a new driver starts for his first 2 week's in service he is paired with a buddy driver acompany him through the routes and dealing with passengers. After that the new driver is on his own.

Oh so basically the New Driver is just focusing on driving the Veichle, the Buddy will be greeting passengers and asking them or Double checking passed and tickets and then saying turn left here mate. Maybe pointing out diversion routes. So saying if we get Diverted rather than straight it's right here or something.

The buddy driver is supervising the. New driver and just providing assistance if needed. With driving or ticket machine or passenger queries.

Ah right. So sort of like when you drive solo in a driving test but your instructor is next to you they are there to supervise but provide support if the driver needs it. I did wonder as the buddy never spoke to me as I had a Daysaver so showed it to the driver in the cab but he did help a women with a pushchair get on and when a passenger asking for one of the new Tickets as they were going out of the area.
