The 247/8 was originally a Dudley Garage route which replaced the 297 (iirc), its had Nationals, Fleetlines, Metrobus, DY Lynx from new, B6LE's, Merc 0405N's etc

And when the 247a and 248a were introduced it had to go fully Single Deck due to the very  low bridge by Old Hill Station.

Ah,the Scanias-affectionately known as Scuds for their ability to move on the open road. And boy,did they shift.
Don't judge me until you've walked in my size ten shoes.

Used to love getting one of those on the last bus back to Harborne, once you were past Five Ways they used to go like stink down Calthorpe Road and Westbourne Road. They were brilliant machines, OK so the seats had no padding whatsoever but you couldn't have everything!

What's the history of the Solihull to Nec corridor? I know it used to be the 73 running irregular at peak only times. This was withdrawn by twm then did Caves run it as a subsidised service. The 6 was extended for a short term and then the 966 came the per meant offering ( with a couple of attempts at diverting it to the business park). Is this corridor now working? I noticed on the sprint route plans and are their plans to upgrade it this year?? Interested.

First ever service started when the NEC opened in 1976 was the 197 which roughly followed the current 966 route using the red/white/blue dual door Nationals 1788-99, along with the 199 service NEC-Castle Vale

I meant the Solihull to Nec part. From memory the extension to Solihull came much later in the 966 history. I thought it was the 73  that provided the service of that section of corridor for a long while.

But Originally the 197 as I quoted

What came after then? I'm pretty sure it didn't go 197 to 966. The time line is what I wondering.
I.e was it:-

197
73
6
Then 966

Got time on my hands today.

Few questions as i roughly remember catching them 10 years ago...
Did the 226 replace the 264/5
What route did the 274/5 take, was it different to 264/5?
And 236 or 237 do the current 297 route and extended to Durley?
The Funny sounding Enviro 400

Wasn't the main  YW 6 also extended from Solihull to the airport for a short term with branded metros with a red strip or am I going mad?
