Used to remember vaguely back in early nineties where the 296 Stourbridge to Brockmoor was served by Leyland Lynx i think before the B6LEs arrived if anyone can confirm this

Back in 1986 there use to be a bus service from Oldbury bus station that used part of 120 route towards Langley it then proceeded up moat rd where I would alight outside Langley high school
This service was,nt available after school though not good had to walk to the merrivale to get 120/128/129 service. I remember 41? As the service number always had leyland nationals, I did enjoy traveling on these lots of character.

Any info would nice.

It may have been a bit later than early nighties as the 296 would have been operated by Hartshill garage (HL) with DAF engine Leyland Nationals up until 1993 when it was closed, I think the 296 was then moved to Quinton garage rather than Metrowest and operated from there up with Leyland Lynx up until that garage closed in 1997. I think it then moved to WB before moving in to Pensnett garage.

Quinton never had Scanias, the Scanias spent their entire lives at BC. Quinton closed in 1997 and BC took over the 9, it was the early 2000s that the Scanias started to appear regularly on the 9 (they were previously used on the 50, and then later branded for the Bristol Road).

I take it by Scanias, you aren't referring to OmniLinks ! It's a shame my knowledge or recollection of buses doesn't span that far back, the Presidents are oldest bus types im properly aware of !

One thing Daimler Mercedes Benz are good at is producing excellent Diesel engines, I do miss the sound of the 0405n for all its faults you couldn't knock that 12 litre engine.

Noisy brakes I remember as well! Upper deck floor was brown, they always seemed to get very damp and condensed on a wet day, sit at the front upstairs and the water would swoosh forwards down the channels at the edge of the upper deck floor. Happy days, ironically the buses were taken off the Bristol Road at 11/12 years old, ngl a near full allocation of buses that old would be nice now :P
