I'd recommend applying for an engineering apprenticeship which NX offer, if you're into that sort of thing. It's what I'm looking to be starting in September (provided I get it!) with thanks to Tony for pointing me in the right direction to contact the right department.

What about an X94? Would that work? Considering there isn't an express route from Birmingham to Chelmsley Wood.

Tony

It worked as a peak only 162/962.

962 was then made 24 hour, but then as employment along the Tyburn Road reduced it started to struggle. It then changed to the 993/994 with various route alterations to try an make it work again, but it never really paid its way and was withdrawn.

It was looked at reintroducing it at the East Birmingham review, including timing trials, but was decided against.

I think the fastest bus to Chelmsley Wood From Birmingham is the 97/97A or service 14 as they both only take under 30 minutes were as the 94 takes 40-45

I am not sure what time your watch is set to, but you seem to under estimate a lot of times. During the day both NXWM and Blue Diamond take 40 minutes on the 97

94 (both NXWM and Claribels) take 45 minutes; 14 takes about 47

The timetable is at
http://timetables.centro.org.uk/showtimetable.asp?file=2_a\14NXB#14
Even at 5am it takes longer than 30 minutes
If you want a 30 minute 14 post it in the fantasy section. Have you ever been along Alum Rock Road

With regard to an earlier post if you are intrested in a transport career go for it drivng or otherwise I did the PCV route due to an interest and it was ok but did not work for me and went to LGV and now dangerous goods haulage I am 32 joied NXWM (TWM) at 20 under the local buses ruling.  But do not rule out looking at haulage firms or commercial vehicle companies if engeneering is the way you want to go as a lot of buses do share engines and various components plus you will get to learn the regulatons on not just domestic driving but ec rules too just in case you ever have to use a tachograph digital or analogue.

I would actually like to see a Halesowen - Chelmsley Wood service.
It would run via Bartley Green, Weoley Castle, Bournville, Stirchley, Kings Heath, Acocks Green, Lea Hall, Marston Green and Chelmsley Wood.

Its long, but I do think it would have the potential to work.

I'm 18 and I've been interested in buses since I was a little kid. My nan lives around the corner from Lea Hall Garage and I used to make her take me over there so I could watch all the buses going in and out.
And, I think more investment in general is needed in East Birmingham and Solihull. Think of all these new buses that have been bought by NXWM but the majority operate into North Birmingham or West Birmingham. If you go to somewhere like Chelmsley Wood for instance the only thing you'll see is a hell of a lot of Tridents on the 14, 90 and 97/A. Presidents or Gemini's on the 966, old livery Omnilinks on the 55/A and ALX400s on the 94. The only new bus you really ever see there is the B7s on the 71 and 72 and if an Enviro or OmniCity leak onto the 94 once in a blue moon! But these hybrids and brand new Enviro's and the majority of B7s all go into the North or West.
