If you had the chance to modify or add any service, what would you do?

Quote from: Celestial Toymaker on June 25, 2025, 03:57:17 PMIMHO The 11A/11C Outer Circle needs to be diverted as it serves a now closed hospital (City) no revenue to be had from there, so in light of that & the nasty turn at Aberdeen Street, i would change the route to serve the new MMUH on Grove Lane in both directions, although there is not much business going on by the look of things down there anyway, but for Hospital Appointments etc, i do think it would be a smarter move than serving a closed hospital
And how will it do that? by skipping half of Dudley Road and City Road? or by going down Shireland Road, Cape Hill, Grove Lane & Booth Street thereby entirely skipping Dudley Road, Half of City Road, and ALL of Winson Green?

It could be achieved by sending buses in both directions via Dudley Road and Grove Lane to do a u-turn where the 82/87 do on outbound journeys. Not ideal, would add to running time and possibly PVR, but could be done without missing out any of the current route.

Yes indeed. The convenience of a useful new link to the hospital would have to be weighed against the inconvenience to existing passengers of an unwelcome diversion and longer journey.

The 11A/11C do not serve Queen Elizabeth Hospital, of course, even though they pass fairly close by.

exactly this, if the 11A/C hasnt served the QEHB by now when it would be a shorter diversion than the one proposed for MMUH, why would they do it for MMUH?

It "sort of" did serve the (old) QE for a time. The South West Link (SWL) service from Kings Heath to Bearwood replicated the 11A/11C along that section of the route but also branched off to serve the QE in addition. The route used branded Lynxs based at the Elliott Road outstation depot in Selly Oak.

Didn't last long though.

The former City Hospital is now the City Health Campus, so is very much still open.

Not to mention the Birmingham Treatment Centre and Birmingham Eye Hospital being located on the same plot!

Turn Right at the lights just after the prison, carry on upto the island left onto grove lane left onto dudley road, right onto city road, NOT missing Winson Green, NOT missing Dudley Rd - naturally as you cannot turn left at City Rd / Dudley Rd a minor alteration of route would be needed but only missing 1 stop then as above,
i get that its not happening, but to say your missing out large sections of route would not be correct, the extra journey time is probably negligable but if not maybe 10 - 15 minutes, not so hard to manage 10 minutes really ??

There was a plan to swap the 82 and 11 between Summerfield Park and Bearwood for the 11 to serve MMUH.

Disclaimer: I AM NOT A ROUTE MANAGER OR HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE IN MAKING A TRANSPORT MAP, I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SEE THESE CHANGES FOR NOTHING MORE THAN AN ORGANIZATIONAL REASON. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO AGREE WITH ME OR CRITIQUE MY SUGGESTIONS IN AN UNSAVORY MANOR. HISTORY IS NOT BEING TAKEN TO ACCOUNT FOR EVERY ROUTE I MENTION HERE.

To start with, the X's and their counterparts.

110 -> X6 - I believe the 110 is honestly no different to the X3 X4 and X5, so why not be included with it, and X6 is also completely unused too.

8/X8 -> 18A/18 - The fact the 8 and X8 completely split apart once they hit Dudley irks me, it feels a lot more like an n and nA relationship. The 18 can keep it's limited stop characteristic along Hagley Road. It's not a problem really. 18 because 8 is already taken by the 8A/8C

X21 -> 21 - This is not an express route in the slightest.
X22  -> 22 - This is not an express route in the slightest.

51/X51 -> 31/X31 - I don't really know why these routes are disconnected from the 33/934/935/936/937/937A, lets bring some parity to it.

64/X64 -> 64A/64 - Same situation as 8/X8, it feels like an n and nA relationship moreover an n and Xn relationship, especially when the X64 doesn't miss any stops.

Now the 900's.

934/935/936/937/937A -> X34/X35/X36/X37/Withdrawn - 900 is a thing of the past, all the other 900 routes were changed when X became a thing apart from these, it's about time. Since 934 and 935 are being withdrawn anyway, these can also be omitted when it happens. I think 937A is not important enough to warrant it's own service, but I am not a rota manager so what do I know?

907/907A -> X39/39 - Parity with the 934/935...etc

997  -> X40 - Parity with the 934/935...etc

998 -> X41 - Parity with the 934/935...etc

Routes that I haven't mentioned yet that are related to the ones I have.

52 -> 32 - Parity with the 934/935...etc

60 -> 1 - It's essentially just a shortened X1/X2 with a slightly different terminus, not numbering it the 2 because we've already got a 2, so 1 it is.

Normal numbered routes.

1 -> 40 - What about this route makes it deserve such a coveted number as 1? It doesn't even serve city center.

4 (to i54) -> 154 - C'mon.

16/16A -> 16/15 - Why not?

This is all I could be bothered for for now, I'll maybe say some more when I feel like it.
Also couldn't have the X41 as there is a 41 in Walsall or an X35 or X36 as there is two 36's I believe in Walsall the one Operated by NX. The 1 does serve the City Centre the Theatre and The Art Gallery same as the 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 10A, 16 the 1 also serves the Mander Centre on the way back same as the routes above. I don't know what you consider Wolverhampton City Centre but I would say that is. The 59, 79 and 529 however don't serve the City Centre

Stick a 5 infront of the Wolverhampton lot, a 4 infront of the West Bromwich lot, a 3 infront of the Walsall lot, a 2 infront of the Dudley lot, a 1 on services that integrate multiple council areas, a 6 infront of the Solihull lot, a 7 infront of the Coventry services and use 8, 9 and letters for all the other stuff. Areas are a lot more integrated and information is a lot more accessible these days so having multiple areas with the same service numbers is not very customer friendly.
