How come the Coventry Road platinums are being rebranded?

My guess coventry platinums will replace the current buses on there

I wouldn't have thought spending money de-branding 2016 vehicles to replace them with 2018 ones is particularly sensible but you never know.

Wild speculation time. Maybe CV Electrics are destined to run the service instead of BC? There are 24 more double deckers on order than CV currently have to replace.

Doubt Coventry would run the X2 to Solihull. Have they ever ran a route that doesn't go to Coventry before?
Coventry also have lots of B7RLE that those deckers might replace as well.

I like your thinking, and a nice bit of speculation.

There's every chance that Coventry could take over the X1, but then perhaps the X2 could beome a 'standalone' service, or even interworked with other BC routes. As a bit more wild speculation, maybe it could pass to AG and interwork with other Solihull services.

Of course, there's every chance that these vehicles might just be being debranded, because a new design is on the way?
My locals:
2 - Birmingham to Maypole | 3 - Birmingham to Yardley Wood
11A/C - Birmingham Outer Circle | 27 - Yardley Wood to Frankley
76 - Solihull to Northfield | 169 - Solihull to Kings Heath

They are being debranded because
A) The services interwork, so every day they are on the 'wrong' route
B) The X1 is an extremely high mileage route, so buses that stay on there for a long time end up getting worn out quicker than the rest of the fleet.
C) The X2 is to become part of sprint

Well, that all makes perfect sense, thanks!

However the impression I have gathered is that Sprint won't be happening until next year now.

Perhaps a new 'joint branding' will be introduced, or perhaps not, so as you say, vehicles can be 'rotated' more?

4902 has the cash vault stuffed with newspaper this morning and driver waving passengers on.
Think somethings wrong with the ticket machine on it.

No that's not happening, the reason for the debrand is due to constant interworking between x1/X2 lead to Branded bus on wrong route and also due to the mileage of the X1 they are now using other platinums to prevent running the 68** into the ground

Just a thought. If milage is a concern on the X1, would it be worth considering splitting it in two? Birmingham to Airport and Airport to Coventry?

Caught 6881 this morning on the X21 towards Woodgate 08:20 ex City departure big crowd waiting for it at Priory Queensway, left with full seated load. At Moor Street Station, left half the passengers behind and rammed to the brim with standing passengers. Drove past serveral several following stops with large crowds waiting including New Stret Station, Ernest Street, etc.
It emptied at University North Gate and then again University Station.  Looks like it needs a extra bus there to be honest.
