Also a X96 merc was on the 276 H believe today too
Not sure why X96 branded Mercs were being put on the wrong routes on a Sunday timetable, there must have been loads of B7s or unbranded Mercs which could've been put on the 276 or 289, very peculiar
1629 was out too on the 289. I thought the Mercs weren't ment to head out on Sundays
On Sunday timetable the 243/4 is supposed to be B6 although 2091 snuck on today, 297 and 276 are B7, 140/241 B7 although Enviros are sneaking on lately, 120 ditto, 9 & 141 obviously Enviros, can't really comment on other routes as I don't usually leave Halesowen on a Sunday
Today wasn't a Sunday, so maybe there's an exception for Bank Holidays and mercs are used on Bank Holidays
Indeed, I think 1631 was the other X96 branded Merc on the 276 on Bank Holiday Monday. Odd to see so many Branded X96 buses off route.

Well in Wolverhampton, All the sunday allocations still apply. All we have is Tridents,B5LH and B7RLE with 1 B6 for the 62. Spectras,Excels, All but 1 B6 and Mercs don't operate.

When the diversion started, saw a few 7 and 46 drivers forget and then try to peform a 28 million point turn, however this is a better technique than the driver of that Network WM/Centro Dart who upon noticing the diversion simply drove the wrong way down a one way street whilst cars were coming.

Unusual maybe, but not totally uncommon for Enviro400s and Omnilinks to appear on the 2 & 3 services (normally Trident), in the same way its not uncommon to see a Trident on the 6 (normally Omnilink).

A quick question do Walsall Garage try to prioritise the omnilinks to go on the 4/4H/4M before the 301/311/313 although a b7rle appears on the 4 on occasion it most always sees 21 omnilinks with only 18 branded for the service and a couple of times before liberators and b6le's have been used but never a double deckers where as the 301 often see's the odd trident and quite a few b7rle's. So for a service which needs 21 buses I thought a greater mix of buses would of been more common.
With the route branding I'd imangine so

Well we only saw it on a 1E (although it said 1E to Wolverhampton when it was heading towards Dudley for some reason). Maybe it was only on for a short time or replacing a breakdown
how many 1E's are there on a Sunday, becuase I seen one but it was Hybird 5515
Matt, It was on the Wolverhampton Road East/Dudley road going in the direction of Wolverhampton not Dudley.
NathanJC, This was on The Dudley road/Wolverhampton Road East by the Aldi around 1:45 displaying 1E to Wolverhampton with a packed bus.

Well I was in Wolverhampton for a while today and didn't see 2076 on the 4!
My friend saw 4128 on that Sikh private hire thing though, apparently it's usually Transbus Tridents
Saw 4128 and 244 taking part in the Vashakhi procession in Wednesfield. They always have a NXWM bus there every year but is usually a WN trident.
The procession caused the 25 to be diverted as the procession follows the 25 between Wednesfield and Willenhall.
Also the 59 and 529 suffered delays aswell.
I saw 2022 twice on the 1 yesterday :D was out until end of service anyway
Not necessarily an unusual working, just a diversion, but due to the roadworks at Perry Barr island, the 11A/C is being diverted in the evening via Rocky Lane.... freked me the hell out yesterday evening when I saw one go past with people on because I didn't realise
811 is on the 80 today.

I saw 1523 about 8pm just pulling into West Brom so must have broken down or got taken back then.
Only seen one enviro 200 on the 45 today capacity wise the mercs are probably better for the 45 as it can get quite busy at times.

I'm not sure any of WB's other single deckers are allowed on the 80 anymore since the emissions ruling came in.
No only the enviro 200 single deckers can enter the city centre from WB probably why 1523 was on the 40 today although 4264 entered service on the 45 at around 10am so could of been swapped with that bus.

The 77 is nearly always 100% Gemini on Saturdays, Gemini's are unusual in the week. As for the 10/29, double deckers appear on those ocassionaly, so a Gemini could appear.
WA Geminis were very common on route 10 on Sundays when the route interworked with route 997.
Apart from 51/X51/935 i believe that the other WA routes are B7RLE/Omnilink operated?
WA geminis appear alongside tridents, not when they're unavailable, half the above is dribble, those geminis appear predominantly on the X51 77 and regularly routes like 40 and 41

A B7 at supersonic speed is more unusual than the working itself
4177 on the 61 or 63 today, saw it on the Bristol road, may not be unusual but very noticeable
Has anyone got a 'most rarest working they've seen'. 5513 on the 529 probably topped it for me
824 (branded for the 222) on the 297 a couple of months ago was a good one for me.
4021 on the 2 ages ago is another
634 on the 6 the other day was also a rare one

Recently I have seen a few branded 222 enviro 200's appear on the 53/289 during the evening so most likely have come off the daytime 222 and replaced a broken down bus or just been swopped generally.

The omnilinks when at WB were rare to be seen on service apart from the 404 and 451. The rarest service I saw them on when at WB was the 439 to Cape Hill and when also 1882 appeared on the 87.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/33109/5787536270/
To see any single decker on the 87 is rare let alone an omnilink think all the time the 87 has been at WB only saw a merc on there once or twice along with a very rare dennis dart alx200 filling in once.
This topic covers the rarest workings.

I'm on 4297 on the 89 & 4527 is also on the 83/89. Would I be right by saying doubles are main allocation for these routes on Sunday?

The 1 regularly gets every type of bus at AG
4135 is treated like any other Trident at WN so appears often on the 126

I'm pretty sure the 1 is single decker on Sunday, as I also saw 2099 on it.
4306 was on the X51 as well. They interwork in Birmingham
Tridents are usual on the 126, and 957.

You can never be sure what turns up on the 59 peak running board. Sometimes they can't run it if they are doing School services in an afternoon and may not have spare buses. When they do have spare buses you can get anything on it like 601 this afternoon

Could happen though
It will be interesting to see if that happens ;) But you Know WN garage it probably will happen!
Other than Bordesley which can never get unusual workings (only one type of bus!), Pensnett has to be the most boring garage for unusual workings! Either that or BC.
For example I have never seen a Merc or B6 on the 9 except when a WB Merc appeared on Boxing Day. They hardly ever put B7RLEs on these days either!

Well really Routes like the 1 (WN), 9 and 59(WN) Shouldn't have Single deckers on there although i do like it when they put other vehicle types on the 59 alongside usual tridents and spectras.

Oh sorry I didn't read it properly
Just a quick question for everyone, Which garage would you say has the most, best and most unusual workings and which garages have the least and boring (Not that unusual workings).
Obviously BY don't have any unusual workings as they only have Omnilinks.
Coventry can be included aswell :)

PE are quite difficult for unusual workings as a lot of their routes can be operated by anything they have (Enviro 400, Enviro 200, B6, B7RLE, Merc), the one i am yet to see is an Enviro 200 on the 9.
BC are the same-you've either got tridents on double deck routes or you've got b7rles on single deck routes occasionally appearing on double deck routes with the enviro 200's mostly on the 99 but popping onto double or single deck routes. The hybrids tend to stick on the 22/23/24 where they wont get damaged. Must say BC seemed a bit more interesting when we more variety and a mix of spectras, zf and voith tridents plus presidents and alx 400 bodied B7tls. On the bristol road you could never predict what would turn up which was good from an enthusiasts point of view but i fully appreciate the need to standardise types-makes a lot of sense. I think if you want unusual workings then you have to look for diamond where anything can appear anywhere really.

The 139 on a Spectra was the business back in the day. I used to wait for one to come along for the hour trip back into Town.
WB's not great for rare workings at the minute to be honest. E200s seem to go on most 4* routes, 74/75, 82/87 are solid deckers, you may get the odd double decker on the 83/89, 40, 45 or 48, but WB's not that good for rares, in my opinion
So which garages are good for Rare/unusual workings?
Quote from: Trident 4609 on April 15, 2013, 07:12:16 PM
So which garages are good for Rare/unusual workings?
YW & WA, in my experience
I think WN and WA are the best for unusual workings because they have the highest number of different vehicle types and also lots of route branded vehicles (which of course are placed on the wrong route occasionally)
WN and WA do usually have lots of unusual workings.
AG only operate four vehicle types, two single (Scania Omnilink and Wright Urban 2) and two double (Wright Gemini and Plaxton President).
But all their vehicles operate on routes they're not normally allocated to, so unusual workings are actually quite common.
For example: Urban 2s on the 1, 5, 31/A and 37 (and even on the 11)
Omnilinks on the 1, 5, 11A/C, 31/31A, 71/72, 966
Geminis on the 37, S1
The only truly unusual workings you'll ever see on AG services are Presidents on the 5, and any double-decks on the 71/72, due to bridge restrictions, so sadly you'll never see them. ;)
I like YW because, with the exception of the 27. Any bus can go on any route (minus Presidents and B10s). So you can get an Omnilink on the 2/3 or a E400 on the 18. I've never seen an Omnilink on the 50, that has to go on the rarest workings ever. I like WA because, like WN, they operate a lot of vehicle types, 3 DD & 4 SD, so rare workings are more interesting, such as a trident on the 301. I can't keep up with WN anymore, to be honest

So which garages are good for Rare/unusual workings?
YW & WA, in my experience
I dont think YW have much to offer other than an
Ominilink on 35/49/76/50
Enviro - 35/76/49
I would say BC are top for unusal workings in my opinion anyways

Very Rare 1431 on the 4 service.
Most of the buses on the 40/45 were mercs and b6le today so not suprised the enviro 200 were on other services.

Depends how long it was on for, if it was on all day then yeah probably did. Wish I'd seen that :(
I think 1431 was out all day on the 4 so at some point would have worked the 4H and 4M will blank destination blinds though as it doesn't have Blackheath, Halesowen and I'm guessing it wouldn't have Merry Hill either.
The 4 generally only see's b7rle's or omnilinks anything else is very rare and with a PVR of 21 you would think it would see other types of vehicles straying onto it.

Is there any reason a decker couldn't be put on the 4? Low bridge? Because seeing a Trident, Gemini or Enviro400 on there would be fantastic.

Double deckers have appeared on the 4 (404), when it was operated by WB, the reason you don't see any deckers on the 4 may have something to do with the route taken to get Walsall bus garage from Walsall, Bradford Place, I think, as you said, there might be a low bridge on the way

Bit of a crap excuse really, surely if you can trust drivers to remember the entire route then you can trust them to remember a slightly different route to get back to the depot

Are there any services that use Bradford Place that require double deckers?
The drivers returning the buses back on the 4 to the garage turn right at the fullbrook via the broadway past the arboretum then via the 301 to the garage from bradford place they go round the back of walsall by asda then straight down to the arboretum then via the 301 route so no low bridges so cant be the reason but at every 6 minutes even the odd b6le would be able to cope

Correct! King's School is on Regis Road on the 1 route just off the Tettenhall Rd. but it doesn't matter really a number of the king's school routes are run from various rotas depends on the areas they serve!! However as I said I think this one (5512) was on a 1 running board so persumably going on service 1 after the school run?

Volvo Citybus? Is that 3225 (iirc) that old private charter buses which are now at Dundee? I haven't the pleasure. I'm hoping to do vFest this year so maybe on the allocation? B6's were fantastic. Lovely buses, I thoroughly enjoyed driving those, some were nippy too!
Some of the 4535-4609 batch were built by transbus but when they went bankrupt ADL was formed they agreed to finish the batch off. (This is what someone told me)
With the Hybrids at WN currently moving around buses (Especially Tridents) there have been lots of unusual (Some very unusual and rare) workings.
Like 4557 was very unusually on the 5 with 4574 on the 25/25A.
Also Routes like the 27/A/28 that have been seeing spectras and some tridents.

I believe that to be correct. It was in 2004 when our 4610-4634 batch was new. What a set of buses. Everything about them was modern and fresh with the SmartScreens which now only consist of the plastic shell and a piece of lino. I can't wait until they get a proper rebuild/furbish and make them look new again. Still a pleasure to this day to get a TransBus 'International Trident. Usually just Voith 41xx crap.

5510 was in Wolverhampton aswell transporting the omnibus society?
A few B7RLE's have appeared on the 28.
On my garage visit today they let me have a play round with the hanover destination!
I used 5418 and programmed routes 3/5/59/126 ,On 4019 i programmed in the 59 and 62! I have pictures of them on my phone. Looks really strange having Route 3/5/59/126 on a E400H.
I was going to programme in every route but never had time!
4604 also went out this afternoon in the 25.
While i was at the garage the Omnibus Society pulled into WN garage on 5510 full of old bus enthusiasts/spotters.
Not the best photo but here's 5510 seen outside the Town Hall...

Only difference (not a big difference) between the two are WN's have black plastic window surroundings plus ours don't have mega rear adverts

I see. Yours, oddly, look much better then ours. Although I prefer the Enviros, the B5's look like a glorified Gemini.

Black window surrounds can really make a difference to the overall modern appearance of a bus in my opinion. It's a shame that when NXWM repaint or refurbish, the black surrounds are invariably lost, for example the Spectras, Presidents and more recently the PE E400s. There's a picture somewhere of one the earlier B7RLEs from the 2001 to 2152 batch without the window surrounds in black. It looked crap.

If you look at Tony's first picture of 2008 and 2009 strangely they seem to have been delivered with painted windows nearside, however I have never noticed this whilst they've been in service and if you look at all the other photos the other side is left unpainted so I presume they have changed the other side to match, something to look out for in Wolvo now
+ 2016 very strange indeed and in addition to this 2030 and 2031 the repainted demonstators had the inserts into the grille left black as well which again looks better in my opinion

Most, if not all of 2001-2029 (apart from 2013 obviously) were delivered to Walsall without the black window surrounds painted (like on 2009, the first pic at the bottom is when delivered and the second is after logo's and the black paint were applied), and they were painted black before entering service. The later examples were delivered with the black already applied.

Ugly brown? It is the standard red/white National Express and Grey West Midlands, no idea why some are different though
I can see from the photos that the fleetnames are certainly all over the place with 3 different styles for the fleetname in terms of colour and location. Bit of a strange one.
So 2154 is going to AG, was 2154 the only one to go to NXWM ?
all other are going to NXC,
Wasn't 2154 going to PN?
Is it going to the same garage as 2153 or splitting ?

Thats very true, if the garage is busy, have you got time to move a dozen buses to get at the branded bus you need, or do you just take the first suitable bus and leave the branded bus for a different route.

There are six running boards on the 997 on a Sunday (although the PVR is not 6). Each solely works the 997 or 997E. The X51 & 935A interwork during the daytime, and 51 & 935A during the evening.

By the way what is the sunday allocation for the 952?
I think its a Double Decker. Either a ALX or Enviro400
Only ask as me and matt were in birmingham today and i saw 4728 on the 952 and i don't usually visit birmingham often so didn't know the allocation

Oh I didn't read it, thanks :)
There was an Omnicity on the 33 last night, didn't catch the fleet number I just kept seeing it go past on Corporation St.
Also an Omnicity and an Enviro on the 94 today, don't know if it's unusual to see both on it at once as 90% of the time it's ALX400's

You can get anything on the 952 on a Sunday, it is usually a decker, any type. I have seen it sometimes and it has been an OmniLink.
Omnilinks and B7RLE's can be mixed on the 301 and 302 at times such as evenings and sundays, enviro400 on the 952 is a rarity at any time, if its not the plastics its an ALX
I'm beginning to wonder about the 51 of a late evening, because I always thought it was Enviros all day, bu tonight the last but one bus was 4136 (ironically enough still with the vinyl 51 route thing on the window by the steps) and the last bus (if I can see across the road correctly at this time of night) was 4132
Also, what appeared to be the last 997 of the night was a Gemini, didnt catch the fellt number

Interestingly. it was reported yesterday that a bus was seen on the 141 in the morning and then the 241/140 on the afternoon?
Unless the person reporting 823 on the 141 made a slight typo and actually meant the 140
823 was definitely on the 141 kept looking to make sure I was seeing it correctly ;)
Very interesting, it arrived in Halesowen at 16:25, then shot off somewhere, suddenly reappearing past my car and pulling back onto the bus station ready for the 16:38 departure?

If this was the 241 then it does arrive 10/15 minutes early then lays over somewhere then comes back round to halesowen bus station.
Looking at another post by someone in another thread apparantly the 141 did a couple of journeys on the 141 before returning to the garage.
Does the 140/241 have a peak running board?
Thats the only explanation i can think of, a peak hour running board or a vehicle swap?
there is a 141 running board first thing in the morning booking on at 05:00 and it returns at 10:35 at garage. and that bus then gets used on a peak afternoon running board 140 at 14:20. west brom cover the morning 140 board.

Yes all of 5410-21 are branded which is a shame as E400H i think would look.good on the 59. They could of left a few unbranded like the B5's

there are no 241 running boards they are interworked with the 140s. all the boards are just 140s with 241s added in.

There's one evening peak board in partcular on the 24 that uses just about any vehicle. It passes Harborne baths towards city at around 5.50. Typically a B7RLE or E200 of late.
B7's on BC59 are common I thought. One on the 900E a good spotm

There was only 1 on the 907 on Monday (4252), the rest were Gemini's. I did find it unusual that only 1 was on there. I think the ALX400s stick to the 94, 101, 65 and 7. These routes do get Gemini's alongside also. The 16 is usually 50/50 Gemini and ALX400.
