I don't think it would be possible to remove the 'stop-start' without replacing the engine. I think its more a case of drivers knowing how to 'override' it, possibly by keeping their foot on the accelerator pedal while the handbrake is applied. (Which defeats the whole purpose of having stop-start technology in my opinion)

Certainly I've been on a number of buses that don't 'stop' while parked at a bus stop, while equally I've also been on buses that 'stop' while waiting in traffic queues or at red-lights.

It was with different drivers both times, I know they aren't drivers that overrride it as I know of the ones that do, and it didn't sound like he was overriding it either.
New engine possibly? And yes I think 'stopping' in traffic/at traffic lights is a much better idea and will probably be much more effective at saving fuel. I believe they've done it to experiment, to see if it saves more fuel than the standard interlock stop-start. The ones I know of that have handbrake stop-start are 6847, 6849 and 6854.
Favourite buses currently:
871, 1828, 4421, 4764, 6101, 6108, 6116, 6118, 6121, 6848, 6849
Least favourite buses currently:
4203, 4213, 4398, 4419

6825 is one that start/stops at traffic lights.

If it does now, it must've been changed recently as it definitely never used to because every time I've been on it in the past, it hasn't gone off at traffic lights, with the handbrake applied. Interesting.

Been doing it since August. When I caught it on the 60 it was doing it.

Engines don't always stop start. For example, if the windscreen de-misters are on in my car, it won't stop start. It only does it when there's not much strain on the engine.

The experiments were done on 2203/4. I expect all these Voith Platinums are the same.

Indeed, if the technology is the same as in cars, a number of factors can influence whether stop start kicks in, another example is outside temperature - if it's too low the engine won't cut out.

Was 4875 the only Crimson E400 on the 24 yesterday? I wouldn't normally ask, but... ???

If it was, does now it carry the light-up Christmas advert for the Bullring?

No, it's definitely not got it anymore. On it again right now on the X1 and it still hasn't gone off once all journey, or even attempted to go off, with yet again, another different driver, so it is obviously no coincidence.

6855; 6856; 6857 & 6859 are all on the 22/23

Damn it! In an attempt to photograph the buses on their first day out in service, I appear to have failed miserably. I missed 6857 on the 22 heading Kitwell-bound, as I was on 2152 heading into town on the 29. My phone (amateur, lol) died the second 6855 turned the corner from Colmore Row, and the one after was also a Platinum (on the 23) - followed by a branded Hybrid on the 24. Perfect photo opportunity gone amiss! ::)
