To be honest, I don't think the average passenger cares whether the display shows "12E Oldbury" or "12 Oldbury" as long as they can see the bus is only going as far as Oldbury.
The adding of the 'E' draws more attention to the display.  Some people just look for the number bus they need, and not actually it's ultimate destination.  If they see that the number is different, it then draws their attention to the destination.

TfL solved the problem by scheduling all journeys to run the full length of the route.
A girl got on the NX bus I was travelling on and found she was on the wrong bus. When I asked why she had got on the wrong bus she said it was the first departure on the real time screen in the Bus Station, where its difficult to see the destination on the bus because the design of the building obstructs the destination on the bus.
The next stop info on the bus wasn't working either.
It's all a matter of communication. When hand wound destinations existed on Metros and Mercs a friend used to put "NO" on the number display instead Sorry Not in Service ostensibly because it was insincere and did not represent feelings of a particular individual.

The main problem in the West Midlands is all buses don't have audio/visual on board to inform the passengers of where the bus is going, so even if they missed or misread the destination or it was defective they can immediately alight and at worst walk back to previous stop where they boarded.

4761-PN9. Surely an mmc is more fuel efficient to run on a Sunday

Usually on Sundays the Enviros are allocated to the 2 & 7, with the MMCs/Platinum used on the 12/13s, 9, X10, with the odd Enviro used on the 126 (which can end up on the 12/13s)

@Tony looking at bus times and the 19, was there really no service from the QE between 15:00 and 17:00? Interested to know...

Which part are you looking at?

That suggests that there were at least specific vehicles shown to be on it. The maps seem to only work half the time.

Pensnett took 6942 to Showbus today (26/09/2021).

Pensnett x10 buses now have correct working next stop announcements except 6933 which has never worked from new

Wumpty

6942 appears to have been out of use for a couple of days - is there a problem or has coincidence made it a spare bus?
