i think the buses & service were better under PTE public ownership, by 1986 the fleet was on an average life of 12 yrs, n yea things are better now, the oldest buses are 15yrs old, but in 2009 they were still running 25-27 yr old metros! So things werent worse under public control

I think the one thing that could defend privatisation is that things are probably more lean and efficient now with less garages etc and efficiency. However, I realise that a great deal of this efficiency involved making perfectly good staff redundant at deregulation!!
