When was the last time TWM/WMT had their own breakdown truck to recover failed buses? I have images of a truck in Red Stripe livery at Selly Oak so I'm thinking late 1990s perhaps?

I'm guessing it is much cheaper these days to pay the £200 or so recovery fee for each breakdown to a private company rather than have your own 'in house' breakdown truck. None of the big companies seem to have their own recovery vehicles anymore.

Diamond/Rotala have one, a DAF XF (I think 105). I've not seen it used out on the road though, other than for moving stuff to the yard over the road and back.

Midland Red seemed to have one allocted to most depots in days gone by.

The last ones I recall were the Foden recovery trucks. 103 (Q77VOE) seemed to spend much of its time around Selly Oak / Harborne / Quinton garages, 101 East Birmingham, and 102 seemed to be more Black Country based. Don't know how many of these there were or what their actual allocations were, and don't remember seeing in-house recovery trucks after these disappeared (that's not to say there weren't any).

That one isn't used anymore & may have left the fleet.

The current one is a DAF is grey / orange Bus & Truck Services livery registered FJ07CXA. It is now on Rotala fleet.

Ah, it's a CF, not an XF. It's since had it's Bus & Truck Services text removed, and replaced by Rotala/Diamond logos.

It also appears to have been converted from a regular DAF CF rigid.
