Not surprised at the 54 withdrawal.  Completely pointless route.

I imagine the amount of people now working from home has rendered it obsolete

The 54 was originally funded by the i54 Business Park, with the idea being I suppose to encourage workers to commute there by bus rather than drive. The branding may or not have been specifically requested by i54, or NX just did it themselves to help promote the route and grow passenger numbers.
My locals:
2 - Birmingham to Maypole | 3 - Birmingham to Yardley Wood
11A/C - Birmingham Outer Circle | 27 - Yardley Wood to Frankley
76 - Solihull to Northfield | 169 - Solihull to Kings Heath

So, when you start a service to a new town you have never run to before you don't think you need to tell people you are running it?

Easier said than done.  If your workplace has decent car parking and is easily accessible (M54 right next door in this case) then driving there is a no brainer.  I for example use the train to commute to Shrewsbury, as the the traffic is a nightmare in a morning/evening and the parking is crap.  Much different for i54!
