‘Marshalled’ Metrobuses

I've been looking at pictures on this site of the various Metrobuses and when looking at MK1 Metrobus 2431 I noticed it had an updated rear like the MK11 buses had. I think 2105 or 2107 was another MK1 that received a similar upgrade. We're these MK1 buses sent to Marshall or were they 'in house' upgrades by WMT?

Were any other MK1s upgraded too? Maybe 2400 as that bus lasted til 2003 in service?

Was there a reason why all the MK1s weren't done first before the newer MK11 buses were as if the problem with the rear affected them too you'd think they would have needed it too?

2105 was the only one that had a 'Marshall rear end' All other rebuilds were in house. There were quite a large number of MK1s refurbed at Marshall.

Did all Mk1s leave Walsall around this time? I remember with the loss of the Nationals ( esp the Volvo re-engined DP ones), the Fleetlines and then the Mk1s, and their replacement with god awful B6s Walsall became really boring

I recall when 2001 was at Wythall, I noticed it's lower deck back window arrangement wasn't original and more reflected the Marshall version in the mk2 - was this done in house?

Apart from the small handful already withdrawn by then, 2436-2974 were all refurbed by Marshall. 2975-3124 were done in-house.

Yes, its easier to list the ones that weren't done! - 2662, 2711, 2773, 2919, 2964 (I think one example, Timesaver 2954 was done in-house, and never went to Marshalls).

That's 534 Mk2's and 60 Mk1's. It might be that 2930 was the first 'Marshalled' bus to be withdrawn in 2000, after arson damage, I don't have the exact date other than 5/00.

I thought part of the spec of the Mk2a, which 2975-3124 were, was to correct the rear end structural issues experienced with the Mk2 after an extensive period in operation. They certainly weren't as long lived generally as the Marshalled ones although some lasted till nearly the end of Metrobus operation.

Did 2503 (experimentally modified in house with no lower deck rear window) eventually get rebuilt by Marshall, with a lower deck rear window?

Presumably 2503 with a few others (and that includes WT 2838) all had a second rear-end rebuild.

2502, 2503 and 2824 (?)  were all rebuilt in house and then rebuilt again by Marshall.

It was 2824. This one ended up with the most hideous looking rear end of the lot, until it was redone by Marshalls later:

To call that a crude modification would be being extremely generous.
