West Bromwich, Bearwood, Oldbury & Blackheath Consultation

will this fade away like the two east Birmingham consultations (15, 58, 59,59, 60, 900, 957 and 960) and (15, 55, 55A, 56, 66, 72, 97, 97A and 966). None of these happened (number 15 was used twice for two different routes)

Would be disappointed to see the 89 messed with, certainly doesn't need to serve West Bromwich. Does Warley really need 2 services to West Brom, it coped fine with the 447/448 for ages.

Modernisation & progress  (larger scale) tends to happen in the West so image things will move on this consultation.

Also, the proposed changes would remove any direct link between Bearwood and Smethwick, Birmigham may be a more desirable destination, but Bearwood's just up the road. On closer inspection, I'm really not sure on these changes

I had noticed too that there would no longer be a direct link between Smethwick high street and Bearwood.  I can only guess that after the 444/450/53/50A&50C there just isn't the demand there for passengers travelling between both locations.

Given the indirectness (if that's a word) of the routes mentioned, the direct link doesn't seem very attractive.

The 444 literally went round the wrekin. Also the 450/53/50A/50C go through Windmill Lane, Cape Hill and Victoria Park before even getting on the Bearwood Road, not to mention neither served Smethwick Blue Gates.

Just seems really odd to have no link at all between the two towns. I've written to NX with my comments and suggestions, but I really don't agree with any of these changes

Should've just left the 450 and the 123. Here they are again changing the route for the 3rd time in 4 years

From my experience many people of smethwick now travel to cape hill on the 80/87 to catch the 82 into bearwood also many use the 89 to Londonderry queens head then get on the 48/120 to bearwood.
I have noticed there will be no link from Rood  End to smethwick this will certainly put people out granted we,re not double decker loads of people, so this leaves just the  49 with single deckers during the peak these get rammed defo need deckers.

Regarding the 120A - in this age of simplifying (and shortening) route numbers, would it not make sense to have this route with its own route number? 130 perhaps?

Alternatively, they could just extend the 128 back to Blackheath?  ;D

I did mention this in my email to NX. As far as I know, the 89 runs all day to Blackheath. So in order to maintain this on a Sunday, the 120A will also have to run. During Sunday daytime, the 120 is every 30 mins to Dudley, so my question was would the introduction of the 120A mean an every 30min frequency is maintained between Birmingham and Oldbury, but service to Dudley and Blackheath would be hourly?

I suppose the other option would be to run the 120A on Sundays as 'shorts' between Blackheath and Oldbury every hour, but that seems pointless to me. Does the 289 follow that part of the route? If so, they may just run the 120A Monday to Saturday then.

It does, every hour. The best idea as you said, run the 120 & 120A every hour, which would hopefully mean an all day half hourly service between Oldbury and Birmingham. I suppose if the 120A were to run shorts between Blackheath and Oldbury, it could interwork with the 128 (therefore being operated by WB). Another option, which is unlikely, would be to run an hourly 289E between Blackheath & West Brom, maintaining the current Sunday half hourly service that the 89/289 provide.

I think these proposed changes need a lot more thought, although I'm excited to see what will happen

How busy is the Dudley to Oldbuey section of the 120 on a Sunday? 

I too am surprised an extension of the 128 back to Blackheath isnt one of the options.  I seem to remember the whole point of the 89 being extended to Blackheath was to provide more links across Sandwell to city hospital.
