Quote from: Ingleboro261F on October 13, 2024, 01:55:03 PMA question, hypothetically, if you were to be given a E200MMC that's newer like the ones trentbarton have (2024) would you say the same thing?
It will probably possess the same DNA , ALX 100 or 200 darts at WB in the noughties  aren't a million miles from the ENVIRO 200s  and these aren't million miles from MMC's , imo just shite buses compared to BENZ 0405N Scania omnilink,  700s are a laugh as it's like driving a go cart especially on a non minibus route but that floaty front end is something else.

If you think driving a short wheel base E200 is like a go kart you need to drive an Optare Solo (am aware NX no longer run any), absolute laugh to drive

4690 still drives great solid all rounder

1940 one of the better Scania's at WB lovely smooth driving bus, just cruises without fuss.

6805 66 plate, much better than 6804 , definitely sounds different to the 68/69 plate 6900s .
New steering wheel and cab seat helps.
Not a fan of the floor mounted door opener location  , left foot constantly knocking it, just get rid I say.
Seems more lively like it's got some pick up and go.
Still branded sutton lines

Most standard Fleetlines had floor mounted door open pedals (although the earlier ones such as BCT had a handle to operate them).

Drivers - what do you think of stop start on the 16/66/68/19/69 plate E400 MMCs. Can it be annoying sometimes?

ZF B7

Don't like stop start. Especially annoying when it comes on before a hill start or at a busy junction

Deactivate it I say , just annoying , how much fuel are you saving when it restarts after 2 seconds

Probably used more fuel, switched back on immediately and the cost of starting the engine up again.

Sackable offence, surely?

Does it auto activate an electronic handbrake, and the engine restart when you press the accelerator?

I must say, on a car it's something you get very used to and it comes as second nature to press the accelerator if it has activated at, say traffic lights just before green, in which case there's no delay. However, if all vehicles had it, imagine all those saved emissions if you're queuing in a traffic jam or at lights! I know some will say this is woke or some other such silly idea, but for the people who have to live breathe and work around the emissions it's not.

Have you ever noticed that on certain media it's always the people who want to drive through the areas and create the emissions that environmental features like EVs, ULEZ are designed to combat who moan loudest!!

It's not like when in a car, where it's usually seamless.

On a bus, it adds a second or two which coupled with rubbish acceleration when compared to a car, makes a difference.

Sackable offence what are you on about ?
The platinum's stop start varies from bus to bus
Some only stop/start when doors open my prefered option, others stop/start when stationary at random times,  some stop/start everytime the handbrake is applied this gets very annoying .
Stop/start has caused alot of reliability issues on 6900s at WB,  if an engineer can get the bus going again we are told leave the hazards on while making our way back to garage doing so cuts out the stop/start

Stevo

The Platinum stop/start, as far as I can see, isn't entirely consistent so must be unnerving to drivers, and stop/starting a Cummins diesel is much lumpier than any car. Surely a waste of money, if more maintenance is required.

Studies say that stop-start becomes more efficient than idling when the engine is switched off for about 6-7 seconds, for an average road car. Obviously, these buses have much larger engines but the general principle is the same, no matter the displacement. It would be best used when the bus is picking up a large amount of passengers or sat in peak traffic. I can't comment on how it feels to drive with an engine that has stop-start but judging from what's said here, it's quite divisive.

6804 - Unfortunately seems to have lost that gorgeous growl it makes when idiling, thankfully some of the other 66 plates still do it, but it does still make some incredibly nice sounds! Sometimes it revs to about 2500RPM and when it does it's incredible!  The 66 plates and particularly this one have really grown on me, I'm so glad they transferred to WB

ZF B7

4744 - seems to have its mileage reset. Love how the upper deck bells have the ALX400 bell sound! Surprised to hear it

4969 - A rocket! Flew up city road. My first time on one of the 74 branded ones, thought it'd be a tired slug
