Does anybody know where are the best places to travel on Olympians in normal service either in the midlands or further afield??

John

JP Travel in Manchester still have a few Volvos left in service, or at least had when I was there last year on the 112 service

I think First in Cornwall still operate a few open top examples as well

Stagecoach's 16 Coventry to Stratford I believe still sees Olympians.

They were everywhere last time I went to Stratford about a year ago, including open top Palatine 1's doing tours which were open to the public

Here at East Scotland we have about 25 Olympians still in service. Usually on schools but there may be times when they sneak out onto regular service.

First Devon and Cornwall, First West Yorkshire, Stagecoach East Kent, Stagecoach east Midlands, TM Travel in South Yorkshire, JP Travel in Manchester, Stagecoach Midlands (well probably just services 16/26). These are some of the best places to find public service Olympian action. Various independent operators put their Olympians out in service but it is simply sheer pot luck. Rail replacement services are another good place for Olympian and Metrobus action that also is pot luck. Join the "Olympian Gen" or "Leyland Olympians" Yahoo groups, all Olympian sightings go in there, well most of them, it seems the elite only posess the valuable info

Is there anywhere one can find Volvo Citybuses in the UK?

Ashley

The open top ones at Devon and Cornwall Tony says are in reserve

You could go to Potteries during school holidays and hope that 34125 makes an appearance, given it only saw two or three public service outings in 2013, odds are sadly stacked against you.

I would say bus enthusiasts tours but thats probably ab unlikely prospect. The few that remain are just one offs with school transport companies. If it wasn't for First's "everything for scrap" policy. Many Olympians that were in First ownership may still remain in tact, same story for Citybuses, Lances, B10's and Lynxes. This policy has been to the annoyance to preservaationists more than anybody.

Don't know if Arriva Southern Counties are still using Citybus G636BPH, that did seem to turn up in normal service in Chatham quite a bit, was still in use last year I think.

Olympian M847DUS followed by Citybus  K125URP passed me heading along Edleston Road in Crewe just before 16.00, just after a Routemaster Buses one went into town.
;
Routemaster have four Olympians G363YUR, H119SAO, N327NPN, R247NBV on School and college work and they return to Nantwich in service - there is one from Crewe station at 17.30 which nearly always produces an Olympian, and three from Leighton - if not an Olympian there is a chance of  Lynx H28YBV or  National WBW735X.
