4178 has become the first of the initial 100 Tridents to succumb, involved in a Third party liable RTC and repairs costs exceed book value so written off

John

4031 and 4066 are listed as been withdrawn in both October and November's fleet changes

I did wonder when the first of that hundred would be withdrawn. All of 4125-4224 have managed at least 15 years service as a complete batch. Suppose 2017/18 could see the floodgates opened - with more life-expired Tridents going.

Yes. I always think of the early Tridents as being far newer to the Plaxtons, but in reality there's only a year difference. Same apply to the ALX 42xx Volvos.

Another thing is, by January there will be a lot of buses entering their 16th and 17th year. So would imagine they won't have long...

Even with its Euro 5 engine or just a case of whip it out....

I guess we have reached a time where buses that receive accident damage will be withdrawn - but would have otherwise received a repair earlier in their lives. A situation mirrored with some of those later Mk2 Metrobuses sent to Miller Street with minor damage.

Shame that they are being withdrawn so soon. Have nx really upped their investment?? They seem to keep buying at a very fast rate

Remember the 41xx Tridents will enter their 16th year next month.

My favorite buses of the same fleet numbers - the 41xx Fleetlines only lasted 12 or 13 years...

Their are emission regulations NX have to contend with. Bar the school/ work services, BC only operate services which go into the City Centre and they have loads of Y Reg Tridents which won't meet the regulations plus their working life is nearing an end so it makes sense. Chances are most may be sold on to capitalize on their state.

I'll second that!

I drive the Y reg Tridents regually, and Ive drove Spectras, Presidents, ALX400s, and E400s and I can honestly say the Y reg Tridents are the best. They still feel smooth and solid, the heaters are still as warm as a brand new bus. Even compared to the 44 and 46 Tridents they are better, as the later ones tend to jerk a bit. They have aged well too. I will miss them.
