Looks as though it's a fire in the engine compartment,

Not knock PE, nothing has combusted for a few months, that said bonfire night is looming......  ;)

In light of today's events with 1658, what are tomorrows lottery numbers?

One thing Daimler Mercedes Benz are good at is producing excellent Diesel engines, I do miss the sound of the 0405n for all its faults you couldn't knock that 12 litre engine.

A friend of mine said he saw a bus on fire outside acocks green garage today, then I noticed a post on a facebook page confirming this. I just wondered if anybody knew the bus in question?

Today? Haven't heard of anything happening round here today. You got a link to the Facebook post?

I heard something on the driver's radio about a diversion in Acocks Green but didnt hear it properly. I thought I heard something about a bus fire, the driver seemed to be joking about it aswell.

That does look salvageable, certainly one of the milder fires. Shame though as I seem to remember 4050 being a nice one :(

Interesting spate of engine fires.......presumably will have an effect on insurance premiums???

Not a chance. The smoke damage alone will have finished it off, that fire was burning too long and fumes had entered both saloons.

The reason you may think of 4050 as one of the nicer ones is that it was hardly ever on the road, one of the ones that pretty much had its own dedicated pit.

Hopefully somebody at NX will now be concerned enough to notice and investigate these sheds and act before they attempt to get them through another winter as the broken backbone of one of the region's most important bus routes.

Sadly I think you're right about the smoke damage. I wouldn't go that far though, I always used to see 4050, far more than 4075 and even managed to film it on one occasion. Probably just a case of one bus being elusive to one person but not to another.  Certainly wouldn't call them sheds either, some are beasts!

One thing that does make me wonder is now AG are down 2 buses, will the replacements come in the form of presidents from YW, or perhaps something else.
