Thanks for the replies!

The info I had on the shortie MK2's was 1048/9 were the DAF pair and 1050-2 kept the 680's but my source could be wrong.

1051 still survives stored up near Wem.

Tony, when built were all the Nationals high speed diffs or was it the DP seated ones only ? 1849 is DAF engined and has a 4 speed box and high speed Diff, but was never a DP bus, whereas 1825 is slow speed diff, assume that was changed when the Volvo lump was put in?

only the 6816-6830 & 6851-6865 had the high speed diffs when new. Most other Nationals would do around 50 mph, those 30 would do around 80mph (68mph officially was their top speed)

The info I have is that 1048/51 received DAF's - but I could be wrong.

This is what I have for DAF / Volvo engine swaps:

The Real 4778

Been Googling the second hand Nationals to rekindle memories of the late nineties around Washwood Heath and Erdington...

Seems as if plenty of these ended up in Scotland with Essbee as school buses.  Did that operator buy the job-lot of survivors?

Does anyone have a definitive list of the '90s second hand LNs, and their withdrawal dates/ final allocations - or a link to one somewhere on line?

Cheers!

I've got a basic list covering reg's, re-reg's, renumbering, new & withdrawal years for all buses from the formation of the pte which I previously made available on the wmbus yahoo group. I might have a word with Tony when I see him next to see if he's ok with me uploading an updated pdf on here (the last version I did ran to 30 pages of A4).

I've had a long-term ambition to compile a more thorough listing covering allocations, disposals & more accurate dates etc for individual vehicles. The stumbling block though has been acquiring the relevant psvc news sheets (over the last 5 years or so, I've only managed 6 years worth) to work from. I've asked in the past if anyone's looking to dispose of old news sheets but with no joy, even a recent request on three yahoo groups for a simple 1975 allocation summary on behalf of someone else drew a blank!

Dave, if you're the same 47549 as on a certain RM Website, you can always PM me!

The Talk - Action = Zero is in my signature there, but it's the only link!

Ah right, the penny's dropped now. Thought I recognised the equation from somewhere but I've always been bloody useless with names!

There's a glitch on that forum at present, so I Can't send you a copy via pm at the mo' (pdf is just over a meg). I'll send you one once it's fixed - or you can drop an e-mail to dave47549 at Hotmail dot com

By the way, the 1975 request was for Mark to help with BCB ;-)

Interesting that 1849 isn't on there, and it wasn't built as a high speed diff either, so must have been modified at some point, and at some length fitting the non standard 4 speed box too. I'll have a root around see if there is an engine plate still on it, may give some clue to a date.

Thanks for the info though has certainly brought back some memories!

Essbee's at Coatbridge still have a good few Nationals a few years back, a few on their sides though (visible on google earth!), 1469 was still there as was 1801 and 1805. All in very poor states with knackered engines.
