Hi just wondering if someone on here could help me with something. I'm going to london for a day trip soon and wanted to know if there was some sort of ticket or something that I could use on buses and tubes for the day. Anyone know if it exists, how much it costs, where you buy it or what I am best doing if I want to ride on londons buses without having an oyster card etc. If this is not available, what is my best option. Thanks and hope someone can help  :)

Travelcard (paper ticket) £8.90 - can get on the train to London or at any station inside London (or ask at your local rail station for a in boundary travelcard (example Strawberry Hill (or any other train station) - London Zone 1-6 travelcard))

Oyster (smartcard - Similar to the swift card) daily cap £8.60 plus £5.00 initial deposit to purchase - can get at any tube station, tfl office or online on transport for Londons website. This is better value as you can keep topping it up and reuse it whenever you are in London

Yes, cheaper if you only want Zones 1 & 2. I have never managed to take more than £7.70 off my oyster in a day and thought that was the limit, not £8.90

BTW Diamond Dart how are you getting there? If you're going on the train and you're planning to arrive in London before 1, a standard off peak train/travelcard return combo on London Midland is £32 (first train 0754 ex New St) which means you are getting the London Travelcard for £4.  However, if you have booked cheaper advanced tickets for specific trains, you can still buy the Tfl travelcard from the conductor on the train to save having to queue at Euston to get one.

I should have mentioned that it's only worth doing that on weekdays. If you go Saturday / Sunday it's cheaper to get the Super Off Peak return (£23) and then get the Travelcard.
