Don't know how true this is but I heard a driver say yesterday (10/08/13) that R220 MSA fleet no.31501 is being withdrawn in a couple of months can anyone clarify this?

Possible, First have recently withdrawn others from the same batch in Worcester as they are not DDA compliant

Ash

If newer buses come onto the 226 may be 4 or so darts will go to replace the non DDA compliant darts.

What's DDA forgive me for sounding silly

DDA = Disability Discrimination Act

All single decker buses need to be DDA compliant from 31st Dec 2014, the main feature being low floor with built-in wheelchair ramps within the entrance doors

That's why my statement said all single deckers, double decker don't need to be DDA compliant until 31st Dec 2016

Oh, I see - is there any reason for double deckers having longer?

Ash

May be to do with the cost of replacing a double decker to a single decker and also there are generally more single deckers in service than double deckers. Most buses are compliant starting around an R/S reg.

Ash,

It varies across different operators/bus groups based upon spec from new, but generally the majority of buses that fall within R/S-reg are none compliant, much are First Groups are, as are NX Groups, the T/V-reg Mercs were the first with built-in ramps. Generally, the majority of buses that already comply were new around 2000. NXWM's Presidents didn't comply prior to being refurbished.

Matt,

I believe the introduction is being phased to allow bus operators time to source new/second-hand vehicles

Had a ride on sister vehicle R207 MSA in Cornwall today, still giving sterling service in great condition although the gears sound a bit knackered! Also, Camborne depot still have a step entry dart N235 KAE!
