I'm pretty sure WB did operate the 16 for a short while, was it immediately after HY closed? It soon moved to PB.

I thought that, I vaguely recall the 16 having been WB for a short time before then moving on to PB, my memory banks are faulty thou....

Yeah. The route and the branded ALX400s moved to WB in 2005. Not soon after, the 16 moved over to PB but I'm pretty sure the ALX400s stayed at WB.

It was then rumoured years later that the 16 would move back to WB, which is what I reckon Winston is referring to.

Yeah looking at the vehicle moves,

4265-4278 moved over to WB upon closure in June 2005. All bar 4274 moved to PB in May 2006. So the ALX400s did move. I remember seeing former 16 branded ALX400s on the 74 around 2006-2007, as you could always see the markings on the livery. The ex Sutton Lines ones were also shoddily debranded I remember.

Anyways, the route must have been at WB for those 12 months, and then to PB.

MW

Third reply, I'm sorry.

Okay looking at it all again, it were ex Sutton Line branded ALX400s I would see on the Soho Road back in 2006ish. It appears that 4290-4299 (originally new to Perry Barr for Sutton Lines) moved over to Hockley in 2003. This must have been due to the arrival of 4475-4516. When Hockley closed in 2005, 4265-4278 & 4290-4299 moved from Hockley to West Bromwich. Then, in 2006, 4265-4278 (bar 4274) moved from WB to PB with the 16.

4290-4299 were the shoddy ones I must be thinking off. From what I can remember, the 42xx have always looked shoddy in appearance!

Another idea is to resurrect Miller St as an operational garage. Not sure how much it could hold but it would be ideal for the 7, 33, 52, 65, 67. This would of course mean the scrap buses would have to move elsewhere and possibly the training buses too.
The X70 could move from BC to AG freeing up space for ex PB routes at BC. BC already has a bit of room after loosing 58, 59 and 73 and having no replacements.
Just leaves the remaining PB routes to sort out! 😃

Are you referring to BC?

Had NX not sold off the Miller St tram shed they could have re-developed that in to a decent sized garage.

Yes it would have solved all their problems. Miller St is a great location being near to City too.

MW

They may aswell close BY aswell! Or if they close Miller St, and use BY as the new Miller Street.

The council refused to allow Miller Street to be closed to make a decent sized garage covering both sides, even though at the time NX were willing to buy all the land right up to Newtown Row so no-one else needed access. TWM had already bought the buildings on the back of Miller Street that front New John Street (I was based there in  the Travelcard dept for a time) and what is now the top yard as part of the process of doing this.

Does it mean a number of redundancies too then?

Is Hockley garage still owned by NX as that could possibly be used for part of PBs allocation if so?
