4396 and co started arriving from October 2002 - that was around the time when Coventry went 'blue'. I can't remember now, only 4203-24 in red is actually ringing bells (off to Flickr to have a quick search - but there are surprisingly few pictures of the 2001-2 Coventry red era on there).

They were delivered with the red livery-I've got pictures of some of them in the original pre Coventry livery and many of the rest in varying Coventry liveries.
Don't judge me until you've walked in my size ten shoes.

Looking at my albums of the time, 4203 - 4224 were in red, blue and white. 4203 is numerically Coventry's oldest bus today.  The first buses in the Travel Coventry blue and white were 4396-4404. The day, December 9th 2002 that Bernard Delaney the new Coventrry manager launched Travel Coventry in front of bus 4400. New buses, 4396,4398,4399,4403 were lined up at the depot and later that afternoon went into service.

There's no longer a bus dedicated to Bernard Delaney since 1875 was transferred. I would've thought they would dedicate 2175 to him but still nothing.
Favourite buses currently:
871, 1828, 4421, 4764, 6101, 6108, 6116, 6118, 6121, 6848, 6849
Least favourite buses currently:
4203, 4213, 4398, 4419

dingding

Is Bernard Delaney still around...lovely bloke and a true bus man!?

I am writing captions for my latest pictures of the Wolverhampton buses 840-844 that have been transferred to Coventry. Its the mechanical details I need, like, have they 4cylinder or 6cylinder Cumming engines, and do they have Voith, ZF or Allison automatic transmission. Would someone reply.

Voith gearboxes. Not sure on the cylinders.

They're the 4cyl engines, the 6cyl ones sound more like an E300 (probably the same engine actually).

4 Cylinder 140bhp (Yes, thats it.. ADL for ya) on a Voith gearbox.  The 6 Cylinder is the engine which is found in the Enviro400s for example.

4892 (8A) had to load on the 11/11U/12X stand in Pool Meadow just now as the door for the 8/8A/9/9A's stand is locked for some reason
