A number of AG E400MMC (both variants) are roaring. They were roaring last summer too. Reminiscent of the classic B7TL roars you'd hear around in Acocks Green & Solihull.

The red & white 45**s I've driven past have been surprisingly quiet so far, with the exception of 4522

4508 is one thats blaring its fans about.

Were they not all fitted with e-Fans (despite the WB ones not being Euro 6)?

4508 was a very nice drive (6 years ago) and it would respond with the fans roaring load when being thrashed on the Outer Circle. That one was one of my favourite 45xx, probably the most favourite now I come to think about it. 4515/16/17/18 were also good ones.

4637/38/49/63/65 were the best 46xx's

A rather rare old visitor back on site here. 4041 apparently new to Wolverhampton?

I think it was new to WB but came to PL later in life.

I've just checked and yes, it was new to Wolverhampton.  The first 15 WMPTE "standard" Fleetlines (4041 was numerically the sixth) went to Wolves primarily to help convert the 79 to one person operation.

They looked really modern when new, and I can't believe 4041 is coming up to 50 years old!

It was allocated to Bilston St when put on the 79 - not sure whether that was its initial allocation or used elsewhere in WN initially - however it was some time before the whole batch of vehicles required to convert the 70 group of routes (Soho Road corridor) was available - 4036-50 (Bilston St); 4082
-98 (Hockley); 4099-108 and 4136-57 (West Bromwich) - the first Wolverhampton one I saw was 4049 on Soho Road but I think on route learning or some other training mission - 4051-81 (Harborne) appeared in the meantime and used on the Selly Oak/Weoley Castle 21/22 - this rather startled school boy witnessed a brand new 4052 on the Outer Circle as the first WMPTE standard seen (summer 71)! Imagine the shock - short single doored version of a 39xx, with a huge destination panel!! Nearly as shocking as boarding a brand new 4244 in Jan 73 on the 118 in Walsall (WL allocated until VRs (eventually) turned up after which it went to its rightful ex BCT garage) - with redesigned interior colourings (de BCTd) - white ceilings, all red seats, darker warerite panels, non slip, brown floor lino with no aluminium foot strips in front of the seats, and rear route numbers/relocated rear number plate!!

Back in 1971 I was waiting eagerly for the Metro Cammell Fleetlines, as until then the last double decks Metro Cammell has built were to the old 1960s style, like the KOX-F batch. I was very surprised and slightly disappointed that 4136 on looked exactly the same as the Park Royals! Soon I noticed a number of differences, but MCW must have done a straight copy of the Park Royal design. Surprised they didn't sue!

The design was a PTE one, not a Park Royal one.

The Parl Royal design first appeared in 1968 and was adapted to BCT requirements for the Jumbos. Doubtless MCW produced their copy at the demand of Wumpty but it was still a copy.
