The 76 will very likely go via Harborne Park Road and Quinton Road.
I wonder how long it's going to take for someone to say "bring back the 29" - YAWN!
At first glance at these changes I first thought why not just shorten to 27 to terminate at Northfield and leave the 49 alone!
But looking at it again it all makes sense, the reason why the 27 is extended to Longbridge is so the same amount of single deckers are still being used (in other words the PVR on the 27 will be the same as now). This highlights a problem for NX as they have still too many single deckers, unfortunately they have to go somewhere and most of them have years more service ahead for them.
To be perfectly honest, I really like the sound of the idea. Double deckers are definitely needed between Weoley Castle and Northfield and the section between Frankley and Northfield isn't too busy. My only concern is that reliability might flop a bit. The phrasing of it also makes it sound like a temporary measure, or a measure that will only be in place until the social distancing rules change. Only time will tell.

The imminent change to the 27 beyond Northfield was put forward as part of the consultation regarding the South Bham review in 2018 with a linked proposal to cut back the 49 to Longbridge so the changes have a history to them.

A small, personal point but I do hope that the old 41 terminus gets used for the 27, it'd be nice to see buses parked up there once more.

You're right, it does sound like it's a temporary thing, but long term I would shorten the 27 to Northfield and bring in a new service to replace the 27 between Harborne and Northfield and even send it to Hawkesley (although the 48 does provide that link so wouldn't be needed).

That's what the extended 76 is presumably going to do.
My locals:
2 - Birmingham to Maypole | 3 - Birmingham to Yardley Wood
11A/C - Birmingham Outer Circle | 27 - Yardley Wood to Frankley
76 - Solihull to Northfield | 169 - Solihull to Kings Heath

Ok. But wouldn't a link from Birmingham to Northfield via the current 27 route be more beneficial?

To anyone.

From where to where would passengers find that a useful link that isn't currently provided.

The City Centre to Weoley Castle.
The X21?

And I had a look at the map of the 27 route and it serves the same roads as the X21 in that area. Beckbury Road, Weoley Castle Road and Gregory Avenue.

That would basically be the 29. Different people say different things about the 29 so I think the current idea works well.

Making the 27 even longer? Yeah, I don't think that would be a good idea

I meant making a new route that goes from Birmingham to Northfield following the 23/24 to Harborne and then going from there to Northfield via the current 27 route. It doesn't have to be the 27. Although with the recent changes, maybe it isn't needed.
