So many comings and goings that I've lost sight of exactly what NX currently has on order in terms of new vehicles. Are the recent additions to Coventry part of the 2012/13 order or  a current 2013/14 order? If the latter, are there further vehicles to be delivered through the year? Given that garages appear to operate as autonomous units who exactly decides which garage gets what of new vehicles delivered?

NXWM Spectra

Coventry new Enviro400 are part of the 2013 order, along with a number of others, including those that are rumoured to be for WA.

These are all from 2013 orders:

21 x Hybrid double deckers (9 Volvo B5LH & 12 x E400H) to WN - in service
9 x E400H to Dundee - 6 of 9 in service at last count
25 x Volvo B7RLE comprising 24 new plus the ex demo 2153 has been acquired (2154 to PE, 2153, 2155-2177 to CV)
60 x E400 ( initial 15 x 4880-4 too ?, 4885-4894 to CV), 45 still to be delivered

NXWM's Peter Coates announced in the Express & Stair earlier in the year that 130 new buses would be ordered, so that leaves a further 15 x t.b.c

the 21 hybrids were announced in 2012 wasn't they?

They were announced in 2012, but were part of the 2013 order, as per Green Bus Funding 2013 award.

My locals:
2 - Birmingham to Maypole | 3 - Birmingham to Yardley Wood
11A/C - Birmingham Outer Circle | 27 - Yardley Wood to Frankley
76 - Solihull to Northfield | 169 - Solihull to Kings Heath

I had the missing 15 as further Volvo B7RLE (a theoretical 2178-92 - well up to 2193 but that was before the purchase of 2153, which I assume is counted in this 130 total). Another 45 Enviro400 will take fleet numbers up to 4939 presumably - and the 5000 mark will be broken with any further double-deck orders. Obviously the hybrids are already in the 5xxx series.

Hi Paul,

Is this missing 15 further Volvo B7RLE more of an assumption or an actual confirmed order?

It seems that after years of under-investment and very few new buses, everything has come at once!

As in true bus style!

They could use 3xxx onwards but then again WB have got Darts numbered 3xxx
60 Birmingham - Cranes Park
72/72A Solihull Station - Chelmsley Wood
73 Solihull - Heartlands Hospital
X1 Birmingham - Coventry
X2 Birmingham - Solihull Station
A10 Solihull - Cranes Park / Chelmsley Wood

Treat that as an assumption and not confirmed. I keep abreast of NX developments on here, the WMBus Yahoo group & various sources on the internet etc - and keep a small MS Word file on the whole fleet. I had it as 40 Volvo B7RLE arriving - but I'm not sure where I got that info from! So don't take that as given. I suppose NX could get 15 vehicles of a completely different design, assuming they are on order at-all. But logic suggests further Volvo B7RLE/Enviro400 - I don't think any more Enviro200's or Hybrids are due.

Thanks Paul,

I guess the other 15 could be another batch of B7RLE or possibly even Enviro 200's as there are still 40 x B6LE in service + Dundee still have quite a few elderly Solo's left in service. Not sure why NX are so cagey these days about announcing order breakdowns, I can understand them not wanting to announce to the competition what routes they are intending to upgrade etc for commercial reasons.

I'm still thinking NX may bring forward some/all of the 2014 order to be able to buy more Euro 5 buses, rather than having to buy more expensive Euro 6 models. I believe NX's current standard single & double deck models will both be changing, I think I read ADL were giving the E400 a facelift and the B7RLE will become the B8RLE

You would assume they'll just carry the fleet numbers on - with the Hybrids occupying the 54xx & 55xx series, there is still a big gap of 400+ numbers.

Yes, there are still a few B6LE's hanging around that need replacing. Looks like more variety in the NX bus fleet, although I guess manufacturers Volvo and ADL and possibly Wrights will dominate.

Yes, I think you are right about ADL & Volvo/Wright dominating orders for the foreseeable, I would like to see NX dual sourcing deckers again though, some Volvo/Wright Gemini for AG & WB at least. For the next few years, NX will need to be placing orders with higher proportions of new double deckers to keep pace with replacing the early 1st generation low floor deckers.

That said, the preferred manufacturers could change dependant of technology used / new product ranges introduced that comply with Euro 6, Scania can't be ruled out as NX did consider taking more Scania's at one point for the Sutton Lines by all accounts
