Halesowen train station

Where in Halesowen was the train station? If I am correct did the route go through to Longbridge station? Does anyone know if any of the track bed is still there or has it been filled in/built on?

It was just north of Halesmere Way, by the brook. The site is now an industrial estate so the track bed is gone

North of Mucklow Hill west of Prospect Rd. The unnamed factory access is on the trackbed (http://www.miac.org.uk/halesowen.htm).

Yes the line did run to Halesowen which was GWR north of the station and Midland Railway south of the station.

Midland passenger services to Longbridge and on to New St were withdrawn in World War I having been reduced to one service a day in January 1917 and withdrawn altogether by April 1919.

The workmans trains to Longbridge, operated by GWR started 18th April 1917 from Old Hill and continued until 29th Aug 1958

GWR regular passenger trains from Old Hill to Halesowen were withdrawn 5th December 1927 (replaced by a GWR bus service which passed to Midland red in 1933).

Halesowen Goods closed 9th Sep 1968, the Canal Basin branch north of the station closed 1st Oct 1969.

Looking at Google Earth most of the branch can still be followed parallel to the east side of Dudley Rd (wooded area) to Old Hill. South of the station again the trackbed is visible on Google Earth until you get to Rubery. Hunnington Station building still exists down the private road opposite what was the Bluebell Toffee factory. The trackbed here appears to have been converted into a caravan site.

The site of the junction at Longbridge, just south of Longbridge Lane, is easily visible by train.  It was only removed a few years ago.

When Birmingham City Council decided to build the large housing estate at Frankley in the 1970s, there was a plan for the Cross City Line to continue beyond Longbridge to Frankley, but it did not come to pass.
