I noticed today when travelling from Coventry to Wolverhampton that one of the carriages coach D has a different seat layout which is normally found in standard class as it was tables only with the usual 4 seats arrangement also the seat coverings were of a different pattern in blue with velcro on top of the seats. I think this carrriage used to be first class and converted into standard class. Just wondered if what i presumed is correct and are so all voyagers have this a downgraded coach like this as maybe before there used to be 2 first class coaches just wondering, thanks.

It is a First class yet Standard class carriage that can alternate between the two

Ok thanks tom cleared that up then, got to say the seats looked quite worn and a bit scruffy the ones in standard class looked far better.

Ash. One thing I notice is that if you book an advance fare on a voyager service and choose a "QUIET" Coach you will almost always find yourself traveling backwards....With a few exceptions I think the same rule applies to pendo's..?.Also, all but 2 of the available seats in the "cheap seat" pendo's coach 'A' (usually the driving trailer) will also face backwards... which is why I usually pick the first (unreserved) window seat available facing the direction of travel regardless of where my 'booked' seat may be. 8) I think the idea is for all first-class passengers walking the shortest distance to the ticket barrier at Euston..us second class cheap seat proletariat have to walk from camden bank.. :) :) :) :o

Depends which way you are going! Travelling from Birmingham to London nearly all seats in Coach A, the quiet coach face forwards!

yes, true, if you are in the NON driving end  :)

By definition your 'Northbound' pendolino journey will always be backward in your 'quiet' coach... or coach 'A' advance booked seat.....

With the recent addition of new vehicles to the existing pendolino fleet in November (ie 11-car sets 390104/115/138/152.) All 62 additional vehicles for the pendolino extendtions should now be allocated to the following sets: 390103/104/107/112/114/115/117/118/119
121/122/123/124/125/126/127/128/129/130/131/132/134/135/136/137/138/141/148/151/
390152/153.   with 154/55/56/57 delivered new as 11 car sets.

Today I was on a pendalino heading for Wolverhampton and the first class was at the front of the train which i think is coach K with standard class, coach A being at the rear which seems to be very rare as coach A is normally at the front of the train when heading in the Wolverhampton direction from New Street.

That's true Ash. the first class trailer is,as you say, usually at the london end. I imagine any anglo scotish pendo,  (terminating at new st). should return to oxley via soho..(ie reverse to maintain the quo). IF, on the other hand, the set runs out via aston/bescot to wolves then it must return to New st by the same route or the set loses its orientation...

Was strange today was on a pendalino and the train crew who make the announcements onboard announced where the service was going ie: euston but then said welcome aboard this pendalino virgin ambassador. Never heard any annoucement on board about the dedicated name of the train before.
