That is correct the 101 Centrebus was replaced with the 101 to Oxhill Rd which also replaced the 76 (Oxhill Rd via Lodge Rd) which had replaced 70 (Oxhill Rd) and 96 (Lodge Rd) at deregulation. There was never two 101s at the same time.

I remember the 100 it was an anti-clockwise Centrebus (assuming the 101 was clockwise). It was short lived as it never seemed to go where people wanted to go!

The 101 centrebus was quite busy, remember it started with Commer minibuses (2nd Oct 1972) and was not very busy and only served the pedestrianized area, the route was expanded (14th Jan 1974) to serve Moor St station, Paradise Circus and Great Charles St and on 18th Nov 1974 the Commers were replaced by the Birmingham single deck Fleetlines as they were too small.

Well then, there we go. :) Unfortunately, I hadn't been born then, however I am still old enough to remember Metrobuses on the 101 - bearing in mind,  my original post was going off what *older* passengers remembered, call me 'Nosy' - but I do find other passenger's opinions quite fascinating, and more or less, biased. :D

Of course the 101 must have been the only bus service you didn't receive a ticket on in the mid 70s, although that changed when the Daimler Fleetlines were changed to Nationals.
Pensnett is my local garage. Favourite bus of all time is Fleetline 6360 (KON 360P).

That was further out surely? Round the Broadway?
Now in exile in Oxfordshire....

Basically the route was from the old Green Lane car park, headed via the back way into Bridgeman Street, Bradford Place, up to Asda, back down to town via Bridge Street, round by the Bus Station & returned to Green Lane via Hatherton Street & Littleton Street.

Apart from providing a link to Asda, didnt do much.

The last time a free bus service was used in town was in 2013   The S1 route stopped at New St Railway  Station,  Snow Hill  Railway Station, Moor St Railway Station, and Digbeth Coach Station sadly the route only lasted for about Six? months   here are are a few shots they include the first day of service

I have checked  and you are correct  the date was  31, July, 2006,   for some reason it shows the date taken in 2013  (blame Flickr)   I am,  Let all blame Flickr,     but  I   have gone back to the originals   for the date  as   31, July, 2006,  seeing what was in the road then is interesting the as the Metrobus only had four years left  Bull St Corporation St and the rest  were still in use
