I have asked this question before but from the lack of replies I assume everyone is as unsure as I am.PLEASE is there any discernable logic to Rotala fleetnumbers.
Darts seem to be mixed in with Solos, and whilst I can see that the 2xxxx and 3xxxx are for different lengths, and the 4xxxx is for deckers any other logic escapes me.
There must be a system (probably) but can anyone please explain it.

I may be wrong but it might be to do with seating capacity  or length of  of vechicle

1xxxx was/is for coachs and afew solos.
2xxxx is Solo and All Darts
3xxxx Is for Full length Darts and Alx/ADL200s, Centros, And other Full Sized Singles.
4xxxx Are Double Deckers
Axx are for Transit Vans and Ford Focus's
Midland Red West, one of the best Companies to serve Redditch, with some of the best buses.

The 2xxxx series are supposed to be for solos and mpd's but 20848-20851 are full length darts and should be numbers in the 3xxxx series that seemed to have made a mistake there.

There is more than that although other vehicles are incorrectly allocated as well

the second digit is significant as well (not for coaches)
x0xxx is a full DDA compliant buses
x1xxx is supposed to signify low floor non-DDA compliant
x2xxx is for step entrance

Honestly these Bl***y operaters have no consideration for enthusiasts (or for their staff it appears)
Why complicate everything? make it simple. Do rotala have that many buses they need to use 4 digit no's???
I don't even understand the Bl****n colours anymore
Red & Yellow & Pink & Green.....I can sing a Rotala Rainbow....

4006, I dont want to spoil your rant but it's even worse 5 digit numbers they use lol. There are huge gaps in the fleet numbering as well where vehicles have been withdrawn what I don't get for example the then 814 centro moved to Wessex why did it have to be renumbered why couldn't it just have the fleet numbers 30814.

And to confuse it even more the fleet numbers actually on the national express coaches are same pattern as Yourbus, wonder if these was always destined to end up at yourbus??

The four 08-plated 002-branded Centros' registration plates and fleetnumbers don't match alphabetically, i.e it goes DCO (30807), DCE (30808), DCX (30809), DCF (30810)

The MCV evolutions were the same. Was there ever a cadet with the fleet number 30215 as there is a gap for some reason other than 30216-8 were ex ludlow.

No, the original BCC Cadets were bought in two batches i.e. 8 x 51 plate & 6 x 02 plate 30201-30214

Yeah I knew bout the batches with the 51 reg ones for the 16 and  the 02 reg ones being used on the 410 initially then the 156 but what I don't understand is that when they received the 3 Ludlow cadets why not number them from 215-217 why start from 216.

Unless 215 was earmarked for another Cadet (second-hand) & it never happened? With all the random fleet numbers / gaps it's no great surprise. Prior to the Rotala 5 digit numbering system there two 444's, with one becoming 444D S393HVV (now 30444)

Fleet numbering systems are my area of interest.  BTW the second digit 1 applies to the two step entry single deckers, the Preston Leyland Lynx and the ex First Dennis Lance.

IMHO a FOUR DIGIT system would be sufficient for Rotala.

1xxx  would be double deck (19xx step entry),  2xxx MINI/MIDI,  3xxx and 4xxx FULL SIZE single decks and 9xxx COACHES.  As you can see there are large gaps in my system but theres room for expansion.
