Pretty horrendous
i mean all bus companies have horrible reviews because well, when buses run smoothly noone says anything because they are just doing what they are supposed to do. and when they dont then thats when people want to say something

just selection bias / survivorship bias.

Quote from: Capitalpotter on May 24, 2025, 04:21:13 PMListen to Bob Starmer. Blaming the Tories for everything.  Liebour have done you proud have they?
Is it the Tories fault you don't drive?
Let's see how South Western Trains do over the next few years.
I remember NBC fondly but it was in different times completely.
One of labours first acts was to increase the maximum fee from £2 to £3. That's an increase of 50%.
Might have guessed you were a Tory. Blaming them for everything?  It was them that sold the buses, railways, utilities off? Deregulation was a disaster. Liebour? Grow up

Oh and why should the govt subsidise privatised firms? If they cant survive in a commercial world without subsidy then they should be publicly owned and run.

Explain why you should of guessed I was a Tory. Because I've worked hard and made a good life for myself and family? Funny how most labour supporters are folk who haven't made anything for themselves.
They blame Tories for everything but fail to notice most labour MPs are millionaire business owners who use their 'loyal' staff to keep them rich. This is my last post on this matter because I've long learned you can't argue with stupid without lowering yourself to their level.

Quote from: Capitalpotter on May 24, 2025, 04:36:47 PMI agree. Franchising is still a private enterprise.
Can't wait to see what a bankrupt Birmingham council do to their franchise idea

Birmingham City Council, nor any other local council, are involved with franchising, it will be managed by the WMCA (West Midlands Combined Authority).

Quote from: Bob on May 24, 2025, 09:52:06 AMThis is why buses and trains should be a public service and not some privatised cash cow
Quote from: Bob on May 24, 2025, 10:54:45 AMPublic bodies ran Delta Way till it was privatised along with the rest of the NBC by the scum Tories. Deregulation and privatisation has been  a joke.
Deregulation and privatisation, in theory, worked out better for taxpayers, as the cost burden of operating bus services fell on the private companies through commercial revenue income.

Whether operated publicly or privately, bus services cost money to run. It's only been in recent years where privatisation has started to fail, because commercial revenue income has been shrinking. Here in the West Midlands, bus operators have been expected to 'freeze' fares at the same time as operating costs significantly increased.

During the NX Bus strike, everyone fell for the rhetoric being spouted by the Unite secretary Sharon Graham, who made false claims about NX Bus 'earning billions in revenue and making millions in profit', completely unchallenged by the media, and that has stuck with many people.

I'm pretty sure that Chaserider are not treating buses in Cannock as a 'cash cow', and considering what they inherited from Arriva, I like to think they have been doing the best that they can, and there are signs that they are trying to improve the fleet by investing in newer vehicles.

But new buses cost money to buy, money that is earned through making profits to be reinvested back into the business. If the profits aren't there, then it becomes more difficult to finance investment.

Of course, Staffordshire county council will soon have powers to franchise bus services or even set up its own municipal operator to run them. But if the fare revenue isn't there, the cost burden will fall on taxpayers to cover the shortfall, through increased council tax bills.

Anyway, I'd prefer if the political 'mud-slinging' was kept off this forum, all I'll add is that I think Conservatives and Labour are both as bad as each other, and nothing will improve or change in this country while people are divided into factions arguing over which party is 'better'.
My locals:

11A/C - Birmingham Outer Circle | 27 - Yardley Wood to Frankley
76 - Solihull to QE Hospital | 169 - Solihull to Kings Heath

I think I need to be another to exit this thread. It never gets anywhere, few people ever agree and even more seem to have little or no real understanding of how businesses work.
There's little point in bothering with a thread full of the same moaners all the time.

Quote from: karl724223 on May 24, 2025, 01:42:55 PMIf it's such a piss poor service why aren't there more complaints in the news or tv or local councillors all over it with a camera crew then there's the TC if it was that bad
All I see is the same names moaning on here
@Wumpty ?
Amen @karl724223 !!!

Quote from: Tony on May 24, 2025, 04:31:22 PMCheck out Manchester. Bee Network has cost £225m a year, then look at comments to see if anyone has noticed improvements. Most common comment on any Facebook post about Wigan is can we have Stagecoach back. The main thing franchising is doing is helping private companies by guaranteeing their income
Absolutely this!!!!!!
Autofare 3 - the ticket that laughs in the face of contactless!

No idea if there's any point in putting this on here but the tracker on YX11 CTV isn't working

If I'm reading correctly, the Telford 100 has been registered to be cancelled from the 21st July? (I think I'm understanding the registration right but correct me if I'm wrong)
Local routes are the PN 7, WN 8, 25 and 242 (mainly the 8)
Also regularly use the 17
