Actually, it should be less confusing now, although I do reckon one (or both) of the spilt services should have been given a different number (say, 39 for north and 41 for south to remove confusion with the current 40).

Until now, passengers had to understand which direction was clockwise or anti-clockwise and that wasn't so easy - at many places, it would have been fairly obvious from the side of the road the bus was on but it always made me think twice at places like Glenfield Hospital and Beaumont Centre.

Presumably, the new services will show actual final destinations (40N Glenfield Hospital and General Hospital, 40S Beaumont Centre and Hamilton Centre) which should make it easier to recognise the correct bus.

Does anyone know why 555 hasn't seen service for about 3 months

Actually hasn't seen service service for longer, it was another vehicle mistracking in January.

Last I heard, it was undergoing engine replacement or something, and would return soon. It supposedly has sentimental value to a director who keeps wanting it fixed. I have no clue how much of that it true.

See posts 191-193 from June 2024, the same was said then and it did go back into service so has the engine failed again

E200MMCs 5009 and 5010 ended their Peak District holiday and were both in service from Leicester depot on 28/04/2025.

Rather unusually, despite the route not starting until July, Leicester City Council has put a timetable up for Centrebus service 21T to Thorpebury (via Belgrave Gate, Dysart Way, Catherine Street & Barkby Road) on Haymarket Bus Station stand HT. It will operate seven days a week and have late buses Monday to Saturday. It'll be interesting to see whether First's 4E gets amended when the 21T commences.

Can't see that doing very well, new housing estate where most houses have at least 2 cars

Strange that.. as the original plan was for First to just extend the 21... This almost makes a duplication, something which the Leicester bus plan was supposed to stop? Or maybe I'm missing something, is Centrebus taking over the 21?

it would work better with an enhanced 21(Blount Road)/21A(Thorpebury) every 15 mins to Barkby Road/Thurmaston Lane then split off.

Although the 21T looks like it will restore Sunday buses to Catherine Street something that has been missing for many years.

I can't find this 21T timetable - any suggestion where it is?

An updated 21/21T timetable is currently displayed at Haymarket Bus Station stand HT

Looks like it will be a Mon-Sat 30 min/Sunday hourly timetable

This would make more sense. It mentions in the Leicester buses plan, this is thought to be the case.. with first gaining an extra bus (to pretty much do this).. so that's why I'm confused Centrebus will be operating it (unless of course 21 is passing to Centrebus too)? Having it follow the 21 route fully (rather than serving dysart way) would remove the need for the silly Sunday short service around st.Matthews too..

Looking at bustimes, the newly split orbital has a combined PVR of 6, an increase of 2, meaning that there is no spare E10s now.

Mayfield

Again only by looking at Bustimes there appears to be 4 allocated to S and only 2 to N

Solos 312, 313, 314 and enviros 591 & 592 have had next stop announcements fitted. They have the same system as the evoras but these don't have rear facing screens.

591/592 have had them a few weeks.

I'm sure I read somewhere that anything newer than a 74 plate needs to have a rear facing screen for any potential wheelchair users so they can see upcoming stops.

Edit:
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-onboard-announcements-to-make-britains-buses-accessible-for-everyone

"The AV aids will include ensuring audio is available through induction loop systems, and all new vehicles introduced after October 2024 must also include visible information which can be seen by a wheelchair user when travelling in a rearward facing wheelchair space."
