For 2025 I didn't realise there is a price difference for a single journey ticket within the Coventry zone between bus operators. NXC single is now £2.90 but SC is much cheaper at £2.50.

It's been like that since the government announced they would be ending the £2 cap and increasing it to a £3 cap which operators could decide to change if they wanted to. Clearly nx and stagecoach made theirs cheaper.

In fact Stagecoach Midlands have set a limit of £2.50 for journeys in each town's Megarider zone, plus the TfWM area, and £3.00 for journeys beyond.  The best value is probably in the Rugby and Daventry zone, where the fare on the 86 from Coventry to Rugby is £2.50.

I'm not quite sure you understand the concept of how the 'fare cap' works.

Prior to the end of last year, an NX single fare was £2.90, but because the government cap was set at £2, that's all that passengers paid, with the government subsidising the rest.

With the cap increasing to £3, NX haven't "made their fare cheaper" at £2.90, that's how much people would have paid without the cap in place.

As for Stagecoach, their single fares increase the longer you travel for, but they are now capped at £3; they must have previously only charged £2.50 for shorter journeys.

Get the train & pay from the West Mids boundary. This happens to be Earlswood. Return with a railcard is about 4.50

X18s are probably more reliable than 2 trains anyway

Direct bus to Stratford is easier but isn't there another rail route by changing at Leamington?

It doesn't matter where you live. The discussion was on the price from Coventry to Stratford upon Avon
