4689 glided past today as did 4424 which also used to roar around. 4421 also used to be noisy.
About time they sorted it out! 4421 has been noisy for years! I think longer than the rest of them, I don't actually ever remember 4421 being quiet! As well as 4695 and 4687!
When I was still in Coventry 5 years ago 4421 was pretty quiet, while 4415 (or 4416?) was the most noisy one that I could hear its sound 3 blocks away from the road!

You know, I was thinking only the other day about how few Olympians have gone up in flames

Tempting fate never ends well!

Here is a report on the incident:

EDIT: The fleet number is 16617.
I was so shocked receiving the photo from my friend...why my favourite 16617? :'( :'(
Rest in peace...

I found the Stagey network more & more confusing after all those recent changes...
Now it seems like the Coventry-Stratford link exists with loads of different numbers which will need some time to be identified. And I agree that it'll be a great surprise to see a 86 running into Kenilworth, while it's been the Coventry-Rugby link for years. Yet at the end of the day it's nice to see a more complete network between the different towns around Warwickshire.

According to that page, 11 terminates at Broad Lane (I wonder if it'll stop at the university) and 12 is extended to Leamington Spa. Does anyone else have some info on this one?
What's the point of changing the route numbers back & forth?
I'm glad to see the 12 coming back as the Cov-Uni-Leam link though.

Is that a typo as 1552 went months ago
Was outdated & didn't realise that 1552 had gone...it's time though.
And 1549 is another noisy Merc beside 1548.

Sad to see 1547 going...I rather wish it were 1548/1552, which were noisy engines with worn out bodies.

I agree that Coventry buses are tidier than the Birmingham ones, especially when you see those BC Tridents for 900 with all the windows scratched turning into Pool Meadow. (I assume the Enviros are better now as they're brand new)

Back in 2008-09 when I lived in Coventry, I most often used the 12 & 19. The buses of 12 were usually tidy & quiet probably because most of the passengers were uni students. There would be some more litter on the morning departures but it's alright overall. Yet for the 19, though it's usually less crowded, I came across more antisocial behaviour, smoking & drunk on board but still not too bad. I did take the 21 a couple of times & I think the condition was worse, but not as much as the 900 which you could nearly always expect some loud music or shouts on board.

I find the 12 just as noisy as other buses. And can you just clarify which route the 19 took back in 2008/2009. Do you refer to the current 19 or as it was back in the days when it could be best described as a scenic tour of Earlsdon?
I refer to the "Earlsdon scenic tour", the closest proximity of which now is the 18/18A. 12 is not a lot quieter than other routes, as Coventry buses are not very noisy indeed, while 900 is much noisier.

Has 17059 been de-branded for Unibus already?
Sorry have left the Midlands for some years & lost track on the buses around.

The naming is after the founders of the University:
http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/insite/news/intnews2/unibuses_named_after/

Also, the U1's are finding it very hard to do anything like the printed timetable.
Stagecoach seems to be using X17-branded vehicles to increase the number of vehicles on the route:
http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/insite/news/intnews2/stagecoach_oct-2013

All of the old habits seem still to be around this year.
Already I have seen vehicles on the U1 with broken displays and many different 'brands' working on the route (X15/X18, 68, X17 as well as obviously Unibus).
It's been common during term times throughout the years. Back in 4-5 years ago when I was on the uni, I'd seen Dart, B10M & even Solo cascading on the U1 during the weekdays, and of course all sorts of Olympians branded or unbranded (even got saw Leyland 14023 once).

Extra journeys on the 11/12 has not been uncommon for years, especially during night time.
Back to 4-5 years ago when 12 still went to Leamington, there's always a late night 12 for Leamington which arrived at Hearsall Common at 1:15am & this was not listed on the timetable. Yet it had quite heavy loading & seems like many uni students knew about this departure.
